Not a dictionary, maybe not a thesaurus

As a small, but important part of my job, I need to come up with good book titles. I'm looking for some sort of online word helper that can help generate lists of words that might be relevant. I want more words than a thesaurus provides (which are just the same or similar meaning to the original word) - but words that are related to the original word. For example, say the word is "cook". I would want the list to report back words like "bake, saute, steam, kitchen, chef, mess hall, cafeteria, etc." Is there an online tool that gives closely related, but not just synonyms, to words? Thanks!

I think what you want is something organized by semantic fields.

This is the book you're looking for:

Answers.com did have an online version of this, but I guess it's gone now. I haven't found anything like this online. Sorry.

You might try the Visual Thesaurus. https://www.visualthesaurus.com

It's a subscription product, but it's pretty close to what you're looking for, so perhaps it would count as a work expense

Thank you! I just ordered one

These are great suggestions - thank you!

I've also found the community discussions at Wordniks helpful (and also frustrating and self-indulgent). Useful for getting the grey matter sparking.

I bet when DFW wrote that piece it had paragraphs.

My daughter suggests onelook.com.

Not quite what you are asking for but a look at Brewer's Phrase and Fable may be inspirational.
