Non-Refundable Airfare Refund

Booked a round trip domestic ticket on United in June for a reunion with friends. Looks like the reunion will not happen as several have had to cancel. Besides going on the flight, for no good reason, what other options do I have with this "non-refundable" ticket?

You can cancel it and use the amount paid towards another ticket (minus change fee of typically $200)) within a year.

Just so everyone knows, Southwest still doesn't charge anything to change a ticket.

Ouch. Is that a standard fee? Doesn't it depend at all on cost of original ticket?

Last time I exchanged air fare paid in full ticket… $100 fee. Similar scenario, used for a different trip and was worth it to me. Good luck with your ticket sitch.

It varies somewhat by airline and whether domestic or international but generally has nothing to do with cost of the ticket.

But $200 is pretty much the standard domestic change fee now with $300+ possible for an international ticket.  It is pretty insane.
