No Water -Midland Blvd area?

Seems to be happening just now. Anyone else?

No water here on Plymouth.

Us too on Elberta Road. We called the water company - please call asap as we were the only ones and they will take it more seriously and treat more urgently if others call!

No water on S. 4th St (Mplwd), either. On hold with the water company now.

I'm on hold with the water company now. They didn't have any alerts for our area...

We just called the non-emergency number for the police. There is a big water main break between Maplewood and Irvington. They're working on it now...

None on Irvington Ave by Parker either.    I'm calling now.

Thanks, now I can hang up from hold. I live near the highest point on the east side of town. I have a trickle of water on the first floor and nothing upstairs.

When events like this are over do they have a protocol to follow, like boiling or running it for a while?

Thanks for info TigerLilly.

Thanks TigerLily.  They were having a "high volume of calls".

Flushing Guidelines: What to do after a water main break

Following a water main break, WSSC recommends you flush the cold water lines you
use in your home or business. We recommend you flush your taps as a
precaution because of an increase in the number of water main breaks in
our aging infrastructure. It will cost you just pennies per faucet to
take this important step.

We suggest running all cold water taps for five minutes. If you have a
single-lever faucet, set it to run the cold water. Begin with the
highest faucet in your home or business and then open the other faucets
one at a time, moving from your highest floor to your lowest.

After five minutes, turn off your faucets in reverse order, from lowest
to highest. You should also flush your refrigerator's water lines.

Flushing your water lines lowers the risk of potential contamination
that is created whenever a water main is depressurized because of a
break. This is particularly important for people who have special health
concerns because their immunity is compromised

Thanks Sadie. (Dishwasher? Am I overdoing it?)

And don't flush the toilet unless you really need to.

The Maplewood Police just sent a notice via email. They said they'd follow up when it's rectified.

Helpful Hint to all:

To get several flushes for your toilet, -you can drain several gallons out of your boiler (as long as you remember to refill the boiler before cold weather comes) or the hot water heater (be careful with the hot temperature of that).

-Then using a bucket, pour the water into the back of the toilet tank.

Why hasn't Maplewood Township posted this front and center on its website?

Same deal for NJ American Water...no acknowledgement of the water main break.

Come on!

FWIW, if you haven't done so already, do sign up for the nixle alerts. I am in South Orange and I get several Maplewood alerts a day. They sure are doing a lot of construction in Maplewood...

Thanks!

That said, I thought you were supposed pour the water directly into the bowl to flush it?

Yes, I have a power flush so if I take the top off of my tank I don't have easy access to the water like an traditional toilet does. Pour the water directly into the bowl and any stuff in there will go down.

On a very hot day like today you can probably collect a few gallons of water dripping from a window a.c.  That would be good for a flush or two.

I will collect the from my attic Central a.c condensate line.  It should be quite a bit of water today.

Also if you have a sump pump you can probably dip a gallon or two of water out of there to use for flushing.

It's coming back online, but not full-strength yet

Maplewood pool closed till it gets sorted out FYI

Thanks for posting this info.  As you can see, I've already put the link to good use.
