It depends. Does he want a dedicated air fryer or something that does other things too? NYT Wirecutter recommends the Cuisinart toaster oven with the convection setting. I don't fry much so I can't offer advice, but I do love the Cuisinart toaster oven.

Thinking of getting one of these for son and DIL but not sure if it’s a gimmick or a real tool for serious, competent home cooks. Any experience or feedback would be welcomed.
