The statistics do ebb and flow, but we definitely feel safe, with no security system, just locks on the doors. The only crimes we have personally experienced have been stolen bicycles (from garages with the doors mistakenly left open) so we now keep our bikes in the basement.

Along these lines, can you recommend a home security company and a locksmith company so we can beef up the safety for our potential new home?
We're moving from Brooklyn - first time home owners - and are feeling both excited about Maplewood and all it has to offer, as well as nervous about the rising crime and our house's proximity to Irvington.
