New Trader Joe’s opening soonish in West Orange

It sounds like the new store will be where the Metropolitan Plant Exchange is currently in West Orange.

I’m not an enormous Trader Joe’s devotée but I know lots of people will be happy about this. The one thing I am pondering is that the parking lot for that building seems a little small to me, and the access in and out is pretty limited. I’ve had to navigate the lot in Millburn a few times and I know how crazy that can be.

seems like Trader Joe’s deliberately looks for locations with small parking lots

Could it be that they want ‘quick shopping trips’, so you walk quickly, get what immediately comes into sight, and then you race out - and, perhaps, come back at least once more in the week? 😉

Oh well, plan to shop with at least one more person in the car just in case you can’t find an easy park…

the stores are smaller than the supermarkets. I honest think it’s the business model, small store with small parking lot, keeps a continuous flow of a limited amount of customers. Gives them time to restock fresh produce all day long. It’s actually very smart. Less overhead expenses.

Union busters…

Breaks my heart but can’t bring myself to shop there anymore

I like the idea. Saves me gas and mileage charges!

I can do Shoprite and Trader Joe's in one easy trip.

Uh oh, I didn't know that. My Dad was a NYC union man. Machinist, last employed at the NYC Fire Dept.

What is their issue with being a union shop? Are their wages low? Their employees look so upbeat.

Wait I just found this.

Trader Joe’s Union — Trader Joe's United!

Jaytee, I know about the size of the stores. Similar to here. They want you in and out fast, so you have to make multiple trips 😏 (The shelves are so full, often you can’t easily find what you’re looking for, either)
