New Post Office mini-rant

I went to get some stamps. Seems simple, right? The person behind the counter said "I'm not sure if we have any". I said, "but, this is a post office". After digging, she pulled out a sheet of Christmas stamps and said "this is all we have left". I asked if they were going to have a stamp machine. Nope. Turns out they have to run out of stamps to replenish the supply. REALLY? No stamps at the post office?

Mini-rant over.

Kinda like Boston Chicken running out of chicken -- which has happened to me numerous times over the years.

But the postal service in these towns is getting ridiculous. There's nobody to go to for help.

We've started going to the Springfield Ave. branch - but even there, the stamp selection was a bit sparse.

What happens between the time they run out of stamps and the time the new ones arrive? They just send everyone to Kings or the stationary store to get stamps? Argh.

They probably want you to buy all your stamps on-line.

Can't you just hand them a letter or package and pay for the postage? Am I asking a stupid question? If you can't mail a letter from the Post Office what are they there for?

I hardly ever mail anything any more other than the occasional package at the PO.  That being said, they should definitely have stamps in stock and shouldn't have to wait until they are completely out to replenish the supply.  Have you tried the Vauxhall PO?  They always seem very sane compared to the ones in Maplewood and South Orange.  The parking lot can be a PITA, though.  (I often pull out of the lot, when it is full, on that side street and then back up into a parallel parking space there.

Running out of stamps before a local post office can get a resupply does not make sense at all.  ...and, why they should have Christmas stamps now and not have any before Christmas is equally nonsensical (I had to buy comic book hero ones to use on my Christmas cards!).  I wonder if this is a local or regional policy...or nationwide.  In other areas I've seen self serve racks of commemoratives  on display right before you enter the line for service.  Again, who decides this is o.k. in one location and not another?

We order stamps online and have been pleased with that service.  You get to pick the commemorative you like and they get delivered right to your home.

Buying stamps is the absolute  simplest service offered by any of our Post Offices.  I never had a problem buying them at the old Post Office in the Village and cannot imagine why anything would change simply because we are now dealing with a building a few blocks away.

I definitely also had this problem at old post office.  More than once

Staples? They have an in-house post office (I think).

Isn't that their raison d'etre?  It's like McDonald's running out of burgers.  Beyond ridiculous.

The self-service machine at the state-of-the-art postal facility here in South Orange prints them on demand.  Although I suppose it could run out of the blank forms.

Christmas postage stamps are still postage stamps I suppose.  It is not as if the post office had run out of postage stamps completely.  (insert smiley face here)  Agree that they should maintain a supply of more generic stamps for the non-collector who just wants to use them to mail things. Something to bring up with the supervisors who are now in Union.

Maybe it's always Christmas in our unique Village.

If the post office was still adjacent to Dickens Village, that logic might hold but it is now located at the other end of the Maplewood Avenue commercial area.

There is a $1.30 shipping/handling charge to buy one pack of 20 stamps online.

That's nuts!

Yes, it is, but it's also nuts to order only 20 stamps online.  You can order as many as you like -- no limit -- and the total shipping won't be above $1.85.  That's pretty good.

Not to mention that if you order online you can find amazing stamps you didn't even know existed.

You know, you all CAN come over the border to the South Orange P.O. on Vose and get stamps. Never have trouble parking on either side and if the line is long you can always print out stamps at the self-serve vending machine. Easy peasy.

I don't believe that they really have to run out before they can get more. There must have been a misunderstanding somewhere along the line. That's just too stupid to be true.

If I were  where I would like to be right now...........when things go wrong,  which is just about all the time

We say "This is Greece"

Something odd about the PO and stamp stock.

I carry 4 to 6 different designs of Forever stamps by the book.

Last week the SO Post Master came over and purchased 100 books from me so they could have some back in stock.

Pretty odd I'd say.

Buy your stamps at Walgreens

You can buy stamps out of the Wells Fargo ATM just down the street from the PO.  But seriously, I had encountered very aggressive clerk there they other day. The true definition of "going postal".  Wow.  Anger management anyone?

The one time I was there I recognized the agents as the same who had been at the prior location FWIW.

Stamps also available at the Stationary Store and I believe can be purchased by the book at kings.

I am glad that the store is not moving, but will sell stamps and stationery.  ;-)

Kings never had any intention of moving.  With almost 15 years remaining on a lease held by one of their own Holding Companies.......that idea never approached the truth.

First off, do you need to insert this stuff into every thread, no matter how irrelevant?  Secondly, you're just making crap up.  Again.
