I do not have MD (yet, although I have a family history), but have been going to Dr. Constad at Hudson Eye Physicians and Surgeons in Millburn for a few years. He did my cataract surgery recently.
I wish you the best with this.
What you want, luigi, is a retinal specialist; macular degeneration is a retinal disease. Here’s a 2013 thread with some recommendations:

I’ve been happy with Dr. Vatsal Doshi in Millburn, though I’ve seen him only for tests and checkups so far.
My mother was diagnosed with both dry and (later) wet MD. Pretty sure that Dr. Christopher Seery saved her sight. On Vauxhall, across from Millburn mini-mall. He's recommended in the older thread as well. Good luck.
just a quick note to mention that treatment and understanding of this condition has improved since the earlier thread. While you’re still likely to have drops, there’s also newer treatments and some very clever assistive tools that make everyday life easier.
It’s always scary to hear we’re living with deteriorating senses especially vision and hearing. I’ve lived with radical loss of both as a result of an accident, for many months until my facial nerves healed. FWIW I learnt that doing yoga or ta chi helped with my coordination, reflexes and spatial awareness on both good and bad days, and helped keep anxiety and fear under control.
I, too, would highly recommend Millburn's Dr. Doshi. He's not warm and fuzzy, but he's pleasant and patient, and he is extremely skilled and well-regarded in his field.
My mother had the injections for quite a few years before her passing. We used the doctors at what became NJRetina in Edison, but they have 16 offices in NJ, one of which is on Vauxhall Road across from the Staples/5 Guys mall. (I think that's where Dr. Seery is.) She was partial to Dr. Jonathan Prenner, but saw at least 4 other doctors in that office, including one of the founders, Dr. Green, who operated on her detached retina (an unfortunate side effect from multiple injections.) They are considered tops in the field.
A second for Christopher Seery on Vauxhall Road. Saved my sight...for now.
I used to go to Dr. Steinfeld in Edison who was terrific. Unfortunately, he retired, but he sold his practice, and the doctors that he sold it to are very good as well.
