Movie Themes

In 1985 I saw “Witness” which starred Harrison Ford. In the film Harrison plays the role of a detective who fears for his life after investigating a murder witnessed by members of the Amish community. The Harrison Ford character goes into hiding with the Amish. In once scene, members of the Amish community “raise” or build a barn for a newly married couple. I remember thinking that it was such a moving demonstration of humanity. That scene had one of the most beautiful musical compositions, created by Maurice Jarre. (Jarre also scored, among others, “Dr. Zhivago,” “Lawrence of Arabia,” and “The Train.”) http://www.latimes.com/local/obituaries/la-me-maurice-jarre31-2009mar31-story.html

Although I only saw the film once, the “raising the barn” theme stayed in my mind for all of these 30 years. Today I found it on YouTube, to pass along to you, as well as the actual barn raising scene with the theme playing the background.

The most sinister movie theme is "Theme From The Third Man." Try getting that one out of your head.
