"Front office" positions like anything within Sales, Marketing and Admin are certainly transferable (look at the CEO of the 76ers and Devils - although those teams are fairing too well!). And since the advent of data-driven team and personnel development, more of those types of strategy positions are transferable too.
The Cleveland Browns hire away Paul DePodesta from the Mets as their chief strategist. DePodesta played football at Harvard, and wanted to work in the NFL but eventually took his first front office position with the Indians. Interesting move. Obviously an intelligent and talented guy. Is front office sports management and administration transferable between sports?
