Memorial Day Parade contact?

Can someone help me find the person to contact to be in the Maplewood Memorial Day parade?
I do not see it on the calendar so I'm wondering if they will have it this year.  Thanks for any info!

Joan has retired from the parade biz.  It's now John Kaufman.  Hopefully he (or someone on his behalf) will post about the parade here.  His email address is bjohnk1 at gmail.com.  (I recently had the same question and tracked it down in order to start getting the Girl Scouts lined up for the parade.)

The parade is definitely on and John Kaufman is the person running it this year according to the Post Commander.  If you want to send me a PM with your info, I will see that it gets to the proper person.

ETA:  If you have a question regarding the parade, please post it here in case others have the same question and I will try to answer it myself or get the information for you and reply on this thread.

Joan, what time is line up usually. Is it still in the HS parking lot?

Line up is usually in the CHS Student Parking Lot for marchers and the CHS Teachers Parking Lot for parade vehicles.  Gleasons Parking Lot is reserved for use by the Fire Department.  Street gets blocked off early so try to get there by 8:00 am or so if you have a vehicle in the parade.  I would try to get there by 8:15 am if you (and/or someone you are dropping off) are walking the parade route on foot.  This gives the parade starter time to line everyone up before the parade starts at 9:00 am.

Joan is correct on all counts -- John Kaufman of the VFW is in charge and assembly and start-up of the parade are the same as in previous years.

-- assemble in the parking lot across from Gleason's Cleaners on West Parker Ave between 8:00 am and 8:30 am.

-- parade kicks off at 9:00 am and follows the traditional route to Maplewood Avenue to Baker Street to Valley Street to Town Hall where there will be a ceremony honoring the fallen, including a roll call for local veterans who have passed, a speech by Mayor De Luca and musical performances.

Is there a rain date for any of the events, or are they held rain or shine?

The Memorial Day Parade is held rain or shine unless there is lightning in the immediate area or the rain is so heavy that onlookers cannot see the marchers through it (both have happened). There is no rain date for the parade. If conditions are prohibitive, the parade is cancelled.

The ceremony remembering those who served in the armed forces who are no longer with us is held in the Town Hall Meeting Room if bad weather precludes holding it on the steps of Town Hall. This has happened on a few occasions.

Fortunately, the weather for Memorial Day morning looks good. As of now, chance of rain isn't until later in the day.

VFW Post 10120 will have a table at Mayfest. Please stop by if you have any further questions regarding the parade and/or ceremony and someone there should be able to answer them. I have been told that it is not too late for groups to enter the line of march. Please contact the Post or comment here for more information on that.

Reminding everyone that Maplewood will be celebrating Memorial Day tomorrow with a parade followed by a memorial service on the steps of town hall. The parade will assemble on West Parker Avenue in the two high school parking lots - those on foot in the student parking lot and parade vehicles in the teachers' parking lot. Parade route will be West Parker Avenue to Maplewood Avenue to Baker Street to Valley Street to town hall. Parade kicks off at 9:00 am. Those in the parade are asked to assemble by 8:15 am. The ceremony will begin once the last parade participant has reached town hall. Groups participating in the parade are preregistered. If there are any remaining youth groups, community groups, or service organizations who have not yet registered and would like to be in the parade, please contact B John Kaufman at the above e-mail address before tomorrow morning.

I have been promised a copy of the order of march later this evening. If I receive it in time, I will post it later today to this thread. If not, I will try to post it first thing tomorrow morning. I hope to see each of you at the parade and ceremony tomorrow.

I have been asked to remind everyone reading this that there is no set time for the start of the duck races. They will not start until after the memorial service has concluded. I have been assured that sufficient time will be allowed for those attending the ceremony to make it to the race site in plenty of time to watch the entire event.

One work of caution for parade participants: As of yesterday afternoon, there was still some construction material in the street on the west side of Maplewood Avenue near the intersection with West Parker Avenue and there was still a PSE&G pipe sticking out of the ground at the north end of the West Parker/Maplewood Avenue intersection. Please be aware of this as you approach that intersection and proceed down Maplewood Avenue.

A friend in NY emailed my wife that she saw her "in a parade" on the Channel 4 news today, not sure of the time.

Anyone else see or hear about this?
