That's what I thought too.

I tried to convince the committee that any band that played the first Maplewoodstock and has been together continuously since with the same lineup should be grandfathered in forever.

The word "penultimate" means second-to-last. Maybe you mean quintessential or archetypal.

not quite.  I have the t-shirt from year one and Emotional Rex was not there

Emotional Rex is one space short of being the ultimate South Orange - Maplewood Neighborhood band on an ascending list. It certainly is one of the longest existing bands since I recall them from being around in 1992.

Maplewoodstock was built on Neighbors coming to see their Neighbors but I presume that model no longer fits.
