Found this meeting so informative. So many well versed people.Especially found Mr Conway’s comments very interesting. He was involved with
Summit’s planning for many years. Summit as well as surrounding towns have formulated strict laws concerning tear downs. Consequently, developers are coming to Maplewood. We have to get busy and develop those strict laws NOW.
Galileo, prescient as always. Who's working on this? Has a group formed to lobby our local governments? The Village Green article about the protest made by one of the former owners of the historic house demolished on Park was heartbreaking. I'm not sensing a huge public outcry, but I'm not on Facebook where apparently there's been much discussion of the situation.
Edited to add: even though historic preservation came in very last on the list of residents concerns when people were polled about the Master Plan, it may be that the demolition on Park has raised awareness, and people are more interested in making it a more prominent aspect of the plan. I've read the section that deals with historic preservation in the current version of the plan, and it's pretty anemic.
Thanks, Jamie, for posting the meeting. I will watch.
