Maplewood native considering return

Hello, new to this forum. I grew up in Maplewood in the 80s and 90s. After a decade in Manhattan and a few year in the Boston suburbs (current location), I am considering moving back with my husband and children. We absolutely love the town, despite the high taxes. My question is this : what is up with all these new little names for neighborhoods? I find it a bit confusing and was wondering if anyone could direct me to a little descriptive breakdown or map of the sections. We want to be walkable to the Village and hope to stay under $600k.

The names mean nothing, just shorthand for areas. You don't need any of that if you are a native.

You might try for Golf Island the area near the Middle School and Library and surrounded by The Country Club but I admit I don't know if your price limit will fly. There are many realtors who will help!

Best Regards,

Ron Carter

Start looking on GSMLS.COM. Find a good realtor, and maybe get hooked up to their email blast so you get direct emails of all new listings or price adjustments. Zillow and Trulia do the same but they're less accurate.

How far is walkable? In Maplewood, under 600k you might be able to find a few places off Valley—Broadview, South Pierson, etc at that price. It's still under a mile.

See if this map helps. It was prepared for the reassessment now in progress. Click on a symbol for addess and assessment. While not directly reflective of current asking prices, it can give you an understanding of pricepoints in diffent assessment neighborhoods.

Very helpful info, thanks to all! Based on what I see on Zillow, there are currently only 2 properties near the Village in my range. However, it is February. I was hoping that would change come Spring. One mile is absolutely walkable to us

Many houses in the Tuscan school area would likely be at or under 600,000. I live on Sommer Ave. between Hubert and Osborne and am about a half mile away from Village/train station. Glad you are returning. You will find what you want. Check out sarahzm who posts here. She is a lovely and ethical realtor (not that there aren't others mind you).

Kensington is close and under that price, mostly

Yes, and it's the best street!!!!!

@orzabelle that may be a good option. Seems like housing prices are a touch lower.
