Maplewood Diner

So little chatter.  Such a great addition to Maplewood.  Beautifully redone.  Great, friendly service.  Good food.  Good coffee.  If you haven't checked it out yet, do yourself a favor.  And I love the Parkwood and only wish Peter nothing but success.  But the Maplewood Diner is also worth your attention.

I wish them well, but there is room in my life for one local diner and it is always going to be the Parkwood.

No reason we can't support them both !

I've been a few times and it was good.  The interior remodel is great.  Some of the staff at the Parkwood has moved there also.  You might see familiar faces.  It's nice to have more than one good diner.  The menu is different than the Parkwood, so you get some variety.

We've been once, early on, and there were some service bumps but they seemed very anxious to improve on that and I didn't hold it against them.  The A/C was VERY cold, so I made a note to myself to always bring a sweater.

If anyone has visited several times and is also a Park Wood denizen, can you mention menu distinctions/recommendations?  i.e. Park Wood for xxxxx and Maplewood Diner for yyyyy type comments?

We are huge Park Wood fans, but we also eat out a lot, so variety is good!  Are they open 24/7 yet?  That will definitely be an advantage since I don't believe there are any other all-night eateries in SOMa.

we had a terrific dinner last week.

The owner introduced himself and told us how happy he was to be open

Super reovatiom and very nice food

Unfortunately, I found the non-diner interior to be very spartan and a bit off-setting, the food mediocre and the off-brand ketchup annoying.  Will stick to Parkwood and Millburn/

First, it is a huge place.  They did a nice job redecorating it.  The food is good, not great.  The major issue is the service is slow, or alternatively, the kitchen is slow.  The waitresses - I didn't see any waiters - seemed fine, but food can take a long time to get out of the kitchen.  The owner comes by to check and is very friendly and concerned that you have a good dinner, but I wouldn't go there if I were in a rush, at least not yet.

I think the food is a step up from some other diners in the area. Better coffee.   Better bacon.   The two most important food groups.

Had a late breakfast there today after being released early from jury duty.  I ate a stack of nice fluffy pancakes with a sizable serving of turkey bacon.   My waitress was great and I don't think I've ever been given such sparkling clean cutlery.  I'll definitely be back.

Heinz today.

That's a very good thing.  Off-brand ketchup implies to me that corners are being cut.  And I wouldn't want to know where else one cuts corners in a diner.

Pete has my allegiance, but I figure the least I could do is give these guys one try at breakfast and another for dinner, then if all goes well they'll get my late-night business when Parkwood is shuttered for the evening.

We do enough diner business for more than one, and we go to Parkwood more than once a week.  (Went Friday and today, in fact.)  We haven't yet had a great meal at the new place, but we haven't given up on them yet.  But we will probably never go to them as an alternative to Parkwood.  It will be as an alternative to cooking and eating at home or going someplace else.

Went there yesterday for late breakfast/early lunch with a friend.  We were at NJFA for the morning matches and had walked there so the Maplewood Diner made more sense than Park Wood given their respective locations.  Food and service were fine.
