mammogram and 3D imaging - be forwarned-may not be covered by insurance

3D imaging is the way to go. 3D imaging is likely what you are getting without you even knowing. 3D imaging is not part of the 100% medical insurance coverage for mammogram afforded by at least my carrier. Just got the explanation of benefits with my portion of the financial responsibility and called about the 100% coverage. Luckily not a lot of money but still not what I thought I was doing.

I posted this in another thread: (https://maplewood.worldwebs.com/forums/discussion/id/114659-Mammogram-shows-something-now-what-?page=3#comment-3282614)

The Dense NJ Facebook page (who knew?) indicates that follow-up screenings in NJ are required to be covered by insurance:

Have you been declined insurance coverage for supplemental screening? DENSE NJ wants to know!
Our NJ Law requires insurance coverage for supplemental screening, including but not limited to ultrasound, breast MRI and/or 3D mammogram. If your insurance company has declined to provide coverage, your next step may be to contact the NJ Department of Banking and Insurance to file a complaint.

I don't know what the law actually is (i.e., it may need to be partially covered, not 100% covered). But I think many of us are going to be in this boat of navigating insurance company policies and/or additional costs for screenings as more places adopt 3D imaging.
