Looking for Endocrinologist for Thyroid

Did a search and threads I found were old.  Wondering if there is anyone new in the world of thyroid treatment in the area.

Woman I see has supposedly gone, "holistic" but honestly it just feels like arise to sell supplements.  In the past she has been good about treating me to my symptoms, but last time she was very dismissive, condescending and judge mental.  Last appointment felt much more like a sales pitch for her supplements than  doc that actually listened to her patients and tried to help them.

I can't find a good doc who also has good staff...I tried one in Parsippany and she had an attitude...there was another one in that  general area where the staff had attitude....a 3rd office person was just clueless..at one point, they changed my appointment...and didn't tell me..until I got a call the day before reminding me....which was impossible to make the appointment since I needed to get blood work a week ahead of time...she didn't get the concept of 'afternoon' when I tried making an 'afternoon' appointment....I had tried a place in florham park..only got voice mail and later read they are notorious for not returning calls.....

so good luck....i run out of meds in 2 months and don't know what I will do at that point...

Do you want to go to NY?  If so, I can recommend Dr. Grover, who I spoke about on an old thread.

Frankly, I moved out of Maplewood, and found an endo in my new town, went to him, and he was just as bad as all the others.  I wound up finding a good old fashioned primary care physician who is managing my diabetes and thyroid better than the endos I was going to "up north".  You might want to try that route.  Good luck!

Dr. Nambi in Livingston. He does labs, but also treats based on symptoms. Every time I am there he is telling me about a new study he read, etc.

However, he is good so that also means he is popular. Right now they are booking appointments for June, so if you call today you won't be seen next week. Personally, I feel he is worth the wait.

My PCP did routine annual blood tests...which came up positive for hypothyroid..but he blew it off and said it was only a little high...no plans to follow up....3 months later I was bed ridden....and definitely had hypothyroid.....

I have tried Prus and Tuscano-Zukor (SMG)...don't recommend either and am still looking. Why is this so challenging??

You gotta find a GOOD PCP!  I know, another hard task that shouldn't be hard.  But there are more PCPs than endos, so I think your chances of finding a good PCP is higher.  Good luck!

I see Dr. Sharon Selinger (close to Morris Ave. in Springfield) for similar concerns.  She's great, as is her office.  There are 2 others in her practice now in case she's not taking new patients.

He is the only one in the area that I did not try -- for precisely this problem:  I had to wait 4 months for an appointment at the time.

Not sure if you are up for travel, My sister had three botched thyroid surgeries and finally found Dr Norman who successfully removed her thyroid- she swears by him

I also use Dr Nambi.  It was a long wait till my 1st appt but well worth it.  He's gotten me through two pregnancies and there are lots of changes to meds during those times and after as hormones readjust.

He is very up to date on current research.  He listens and if you have a suggestion he considers it and explains the pros and cons to you.  He doesn't just go by the numbers for the tests, he wants to know how you feel and he really understands the science behind the numbers to adjust the meds.  I asked about changing the type of meds I was on and he was open to the discussion and trying it.  He is open to alternative treatments not just the big pharma prescription options, so if you like that route it is an option but you would need to bring it up because he does start with the more traditional options.

Office staff is nice but if you are someone who wants to be in and out and always on time you won't be here.  I try to schedule my appt 1st thing in the morning or right after his lunch break.  He takes his time and talks to you plus he loves to tell stories, so it can cause him to get off schedule some.  It is worth it though because I know he is giving me as much time as I need for my appt but he also does that for others which is why it throws off his schedule.  I would definitely recommend him, he is worth the wait.  Once you are a patient, it is easier to get appts but I always schedule my next appt when I'm there so I get the most options.

My husband used to go to Luigina Vlad in Livingston for his thyroid issues and liked her a lot. IIRC, she was open to alternative medicine but did not push it. She was also very open to discussing what was going on and how to treat it.

does anyone know if Dr. Nambi will use Armour Thyroid or will he only do synthroud?

I do have a PCP at SMG who I really and will go discuss with her, but as of last year, all of the smg endos will only use synthetic thyroid meds which didn't work for me in the past.

Another thing about Dr. Nambi, he really does care. I was there once and needed a PET scan for my thyroid cancer. He looked through the paperwork to see if it had been approved yet and saw in the chart that the insurance company had denied it. He picked up the phone and called them himself, right in front of me. He got my scan approved.

Dr Nambi will use Armour.  I was on synthroid, I just asked about trying Armour at one of my appointments and he looked through my numbers and we talked about how I was feeling and then said it wasn't a problem, so now I'm on Armour and we are getting my dose dailed in.  He is very open to discussing which type of replacement/medication you use.

And if you ask questions Dr. Nambi won't treat you like a hypochondriac or tell you to stay off of google. He actually welcomes questions, discussions, and patients learning more about their conditions and medications.

thank you!  Bambi is on my insurance.  I will be calling for a appointment Asap

Bambi would probably be more helpful than the endos I have seen to date.

LOL. Stupid autocorrect!
