Look at the moon!

The lunar eclipse has started and the clouds have cleared.

I keep checking on it as it pops in and out of the clouds. Very cool.

Me too. I wish the clouds would clear out.

Really, I was out recently and saw nothing. Is there a good spot in Maplewood to see it, other than the reservation?

I'm so glad you posted this -- I wrote it off thinking it would be totally overcast tonight like it was all day. I just went out in the driveway and the entire sky is clear and it's beautiful to watch. Makes you remember that this is what's real in the world and not all the crap we're forced to hear every day. (It's in the northeast sky right now.)

ETA: The full eclipse begins at 10:11pm -- this is when the "Supermoon" is supposed to be visible.

I caught the briefest glimpse of a fingernail then it seems the cloud cover came back in.

Floods Hill would probably give a good view, based on where I saw the moon. But only if the sky clears.

Someone posted in the other moon thread that the SOPD gave them a polite heave-ho from Floods Hill.

These clouds are bogus. The least they could do is rain on us if they're going to mess up our eclipse view.

The sky is totally clear where I am (down the shore)!

Anyone know what sky quadrant the eclipse should be visible in? I'm hemmed in by tall trees, so I can't tell exactly where the moon should be -

The huge trees in my block don't let me see this =(

It must vary quite locally. I can't see anything but a reddish haze.

I have this website open on my computer -

It updates the compass heading. It's at 137 degrees (basically almost exactly southeast) right now (edited to add, at an angle of 42 degrees up from horizontal). But, it's all clouds.

We went to the Maplewood train station, and stood at the top of the hill in Memorial to try to see it. Just clouds.

I've been in and out checking tonight, and have seen glimpses when the clouds thinned, but really not good viewing from our location (above Ridgewood). Not worth waking the younger kids to try to see.

I went to Maplewood Train station and saw nothing so I went up to the Reservation and saw a piece of it for two minutes. And it was not even red. Bummer.

Guess I'll have to watch it online.
