Logan (the movie)

Will I enjoy this movie if I don't know anything about the character or X-men or superheroes in general? Would some backstory be helpful? Or can the movie stand on its own?

I thought it was a very good movie and I didn't know much if anything about Xmen and never saw the other movies. It's extremely violent though so if you aren't into that, it's not for you.

yeah, I'm not a X-men fan but I knew the basic background of the two main characters. I thought it was a good movie. It is extremely bloody though (I guess to be expected when your hero's main weapons are knives that come out of his hands) No guts really - just a lot of blood and very graphic slashings, stabbings and gougings . Some heads roll, literally.

Probably not.

Without the backstory you won't know why anyone is doing what they are doing, and why it's important or interesting.

Out of the 2 hours of the movie I can't think of a single scene that doesn't take some backstory to make it make sense. I'm a big X-men fan, and I had some WTF is going on moments, because I haven't watched the last two X-men movies.

I'm going to change my "Probably not" to "Nope". The emotional highs and lows of the movie will just be a flatline of "Why are the doing that" and "Why should I care about this person/event?"

I did not see Xmen or wolverine nor did I have more than a very basic understanding of who wolverine was and I liked the movie and didn't feel lost really

The story stands on it's own. It's a somewhat different story, of course, than what the X-Men fan will see, but it's there nonetheless.
