Dr. Blair Schachtel 769 Northfield Avenue West Orange
He is very gentle. He did a root canal on me (not a huge one but a root canal nevertheless) and I never had any pain. He also has done a lot of other work on me and it is almost all painless, even the novocaine. He is an excellent dentist.
Plus Dr. Fried's office is convenient, he is on the corner of Milburn Ave and valley so it is nice and close. He is such a wonderful man and has such a great way with children. (He is wonderful with adults too).
Another vote for Justin Fried. He's friendly, has great hours, cleans your teeth personally, has TVs to watch during the cleaning, and is located very nearby at the corner of Valley and Millburn Aves.
I have to agree with everyone who said Dr. Fried. I had a decades-long fear of dentists and, after just a few minutes with him, I felt completely comfortable and all fear was gone. He did my very first filling (ever--in my life!!) and other work done and was just wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about him!! AND---you get to watch CNN at the same time
I'm with lymiegirl - total dental-phobe here, except for Fried. He is a nice man with a good heart. His wife is sometimes in the office, too, and she is like him - a really good & warm person. He is always the hands-down favorite here on MOL when this question gets asked (which is often!). I have no doubt that the others people have listed here are nice, good, competent dentists too - but Justin Fried is really special IMO.
Ditto the dentist phobia. I had blown off going to the dentist for several years and paid dearly for it. I went to Dr. Fried and felt at ease and had a lot of work done over a couple of years.... root canal, crown, inlay, fillings, etc.
Dr. Fried was fine UNTIL I had to have actual work done on my teeth. After that experience I switched to Hal Solomon and found him much better. I can do without the TV if it's painless!
Dr. Gonsalves is the man, IMHO. He put in a crown and it's perfect, and the cleaning I got from his Hygenist was the best I ever received, hands down. Same office building as Dr. Fried; in fact they cover for each other. Mrs. X tried Dr. Fried and had to return to him a couple of times before he got things right. She's changing to Dr. Gonsalves. You can watch TV there as well.
Dr. Fried does not take our insurance but does not charge over the the usual and customary. We rarely see a bill from him. It's all paid by our carrier (whom he is not a participating Dr.)
Dr. Justin Fried is the BEST dentist my wife and I have ever used. Plus, he doesn't try to perform any procedures that aren't necessary (which I can't say for most all of my previous dentists). It's so hard to find a good dentist - and we're so happy our friends referred him to us.
Add another vote for Dr. Fried. Totally wonderful person and dentist. He is not in our insurance either however I found that what the family gets charged for regular cleanings (every 6 months) is much less expensive than paying into dental insurance each month without actually using it each month. I know that would change if there was work to be done however we come from a long line of great teeth.
