Can anyone recommend a good local bakery? I have to order a cake for a party and am looking for recommendations. Thanks.

Shoprite In West Orange has terrific cakes as does Costco but that might be a bit far. But certainly good and less expensive

Just got a cake from Edo's which got rave reviews. I haven't eaten cake in over a year but had to have a little bite. It was moist, delicious and not super sweet. He did a wonderful job with the decoration and his prices are reasonable for the quality.

The decorations on Edo's cakes are awesome! What a treasure right here in our community.

Not quite as local, but Natale's in Summit and Supreme Bakery in West Orange are additional suggestions.

We've gotten two cakes from Able Baker. Splurge in Millburn is good too.

+1 for Supreme Bakery in WO, old family owned business with great service

We've used Able Baker for 2 cakes and they were delicious but definitely expensive!

At Munchie's we sell German Chocolate, Red Velvet and Carrot cake all made by Adrienne Fudge of Aunt Bay's Delights. Rather than believe me when I say they are exceptional, you can come get a slice to try them out.

Able Baker but I'm pretty sure you need to order at least a week in advance so keep that in mind.

Able Baker's stuff is outstanding in quality and taste and where costs might go higher is if you get a lot of fondant work on the cake as it is a literal work of art as each piece is hand sculpted. You can see some of their cake work on their Facebook page.

Here is my Daughter's Baptism cake from Able Baker. It's on their FB page as well.

I've had cake from Supreme years ago, delicious. I recently had a St Patty's frog and also a chocolate cup cake, both were great.

Edo's. I've never had a cake, but I had something called a lobster tail, it was to die for. Scully had something else which I tried a bite of, also excellent.

Natale's, you can't go wrong. We've had pastries, cupcakes, etc, from there, all excellent. A slight thread drift, my great grandparents used to fight over that place. My great grandmother refused to bake bread since Natale's had opened up and was right down the road from them. My great grandfather said that there was no way they could afford to buy bread to feed nine children while they were in the middle of a depression even if he did have a job. She flat out refused to bake bread, so my great grandfather ended up making the bread for the week every Sunday, his one day off from work. Once the economy got better and the children started growing up and getting jobs or leaving home, my great grandfather relented and buying bread from Natale's then became part of his regular Sunday routine until he moved to Florida to retire.

I'd get a cake made by someone named Adrienne Fudge in a heartbeat! grin

i will vouch for the deliciousness of those cakes!
my 3 yr old, who had never had carrot cake before, hunched over his piece protectively so that no one could take it from him!

Thank you everyone! Some great information!

In case you consider Upper Montclair local, in my opinion, the tastiest cake bakery around is the Little Daisy Bake Shop. The best part is, if you have guests who are nut allergic, their cakes are safe!

Able Baker - hands down.
yes - you can get a work of art - but they do a kick ass job on the taste of any cake.

Able Baker...no question. Whether you get it decorated or not, it will be delicious! Chocolate cake with vanilla bean icing. Amazing! Carrot cake...the best! Oh, and the chocolate cake with espresso buttercream. Yummy!!!!

At, reading this now I want to head to Able Baker and eat some pastries!
They did my daughter's birthday cake - delicious and very pretty too!

I bought a normal, no frills, birthday cake from the Able Baker and found it to be reasonably priced (I actually thought it was going to be MORE expensive than it was).

You cannot go wrong with The Able Baker, ever.

I've already told Julie I want that mesmerizing My Little Pony cake for my 40th birthday, @joy. I need to taste that rainbow.

If you have a specific type of cake in mind it's good to try a piece. For a party I had a request for a carrot cake. Able baker didn't have a small version we could sample when I went, Natales happened to be giving out samples of carrot cake when I went, I bought carrot cake cupcakes from Supreme and Cupcake Corral (now cedar ridge.). Supremes was horrible, not like carrot cake at all. Cupcake Corral and Natales were both amazing, but we ended up at Natales because they offered a sheet cake in the size I needed. I also got a chocolate cake from Natales but wasn't as thrilled with that.

I am very picky about baked goods, I bake, and come from a long line of bakers. I had specially ordered Black Forest Cupcakes for my birthday from Edo's and they were just luscious!

I got a puppy cake from Able Baker. ONe of the most glorious purchases ever! delicious! beautiful!

My mom worked at New Garden Bakery in Maplewood for years. She says she cannot find the kind of cupcakes or chocolate sponge cakes they had there, and the CLOSEST is Natales. When I bring her Natales she becomes a kid again, hiding the cake from my dad, savoring it over the week. Natales is an old world jewel.

And I want that Pony cake from Able Baker too! My Brony would gasp in delight.

Somebody share this thread with my kids and BF. I am jonesing for the perfect (well, the next best thing to perfect) cupcake or cake, and time is of the essence. ;-)
