karate for kids archived

Can anyone recommend good karate for a 7-year old? I know there's Blue Life - has anyone had good experience with that school, or are there any others?
My son takes karate at the Women's Club (2nd floor) - today at 4:45 - he also has different times. Sensei Carmen's # is 973-761-6014. I really like him - his goal is to get the kids moving and he's fun and nice. Give him a call - we tried karate through the YMCA a few years back and we weren't happy and I was hesitant about doing it again but Sensei Carmen is a great guy.

The karate through the YMCA is the guy who runs Blue Life karate. We had a horrible experience as well with the program. That said, I have several friends that have sent their kids to Blue Life and love it.

There is another karate studio behind the Wine Library that I have heard amazing things about.

OH thanks, I'll give Sensei Carmen a call and take a drive by the Wine Library and see if I can find out about that school - I'lll post it if I find it.

Lots of local kids take Tae Kwon Do (which I believe is what Carmen does) at the Baird Center. There are several classes, and it's very reasonable.

What's the minimum age requirement for these classes?

I used to run an After School Program and we went to Master Cho's on Bloomfield Ave in Cedar Grove for years. He and his staff were wonderful with the Kids. It may be a bit of a trek for you but in my opinion well worth the trip!

The Baird classes start at older 4s.

I highly recommend the Tae Kwon Do classes as the Baird. The Syzygy Kid is doing great there, and the instructor is awesome.

The instructor at the Baird (Steve Saffron) is fantastic. His classes are very popular and the beginner level fills up pretty quickly. I believe he is adding more more classes to meet the demand. Our daughter is there and we are very impressed with the program. There are preschoolers (4 yr olds) in the beginner class.

i know steve and he is a fantastic guy. he has indeed had to add more classes because he is so good that he has exceeded his previous capacity. i would trust him with my kid in a heartbeat, and he really knows his stuff.

If its Carmen Puglio (Pulio? i don't recall the spelling of his name) he used to run Empty Hands on Springfield ave. Hell of a guy.

The Baird Center classes are all full. Does anyone know if Steve teaches anywhere else?

I have 1 or 2 karate uniforms with blue life logo on them that someone may have it they wish...whisper me. Suitable for 5-6 year old, and 6-8 year old.

Just to follow up - my son started today with Sensei Carmine at the Women's Club and it was a huge hit - he seems really great with kids! Thank you for the recommendation and so far, I would agree his class is really good.
