Jussie Smollett - what an idiot

This guy should be nominated for a Darwin Award.  What an idiot!

Not just an idiot, but a true *******.

Maybe it was a false false flag?

Neither "Darwin Award" nor "idiot" are appropriate comments.

If what is alleged is true, he was selfish.

He's hurt a lot of people, especially since his actions will detract from the legitimate victims of abuse.

Too many people are more than happy to jump on this to minimize actual racism and abuse in this country, and he helped them.

Yup. A giftwrapped delight for the racism apologists.

Are you kidding?  The guy tried to spark a race war so he could get a raise. According to the early reports he paid his “attackers” by check and called them before and after the attack, then refused to turn over his cell phone. He went on National TV fabricating a complete hoax.  He’s an idiot and should spend a really long time in prison.

No

He claimed he was attacked because he "comes hard at MAGA and comes really really hard at his administration" - so commit a couple of felonies so you can guarantee that you can't even VOTE in the 2020 election! Idiotic is a wildly fair assessment of his decision making in the recent month - oh, and criminal and needless to say, incredibly narcissistic.

Why our politics can't handle Jussie Smollett

Excerpt:

And so, Democratic 2020 candidates were very quick to believe Smollett's version of events. And now Republicans -- especially those aligned with the Trump White House -- are just as quick to seize on the idea this was all an elaborate hoax. Both sides are simply exhibiting confirmation bias. Because we reward that sort of thing in our politics now.
...
The Point: Modern politics isn't built for a let's-wait-and-see-what-all-the-facts-reveal approach to events. It's built to incentivize whoever has the first and toughest (and most memorable quote), even if the facts ultimately undermine it.

as Amanda Marcotte points out at salon.com, there are hoaxes, and then there are hoaxes:

This hoax follows on the heels of the latest development in a long-running hoax concocted by Donald Trump. For years now, Trump has been spinning an elaborate hoax meant to trick the public — at least conservative voters — into believing there's an "invasion" at the southern border, and only a "wall" can stop it. Last week, after Congress declined to participate in the hoax by giving Trump money for the wall, Trump, desperate to keep the hoax going, declared a "national emergency" and moved to re-appropriate funds to build his wall.

This is perpetuated by many journalists and main stream media - they no longer wait for facts or sit back and reflect.

And for that he deserves extra scrutiny and punishment.

It appears to be a downside to this age of mass instant access to information. If media outlets and reporters decide to wait for more facts, they will be 'scooped' by Twitter/social media and less rigorous media outlets on a regular basis.

Even if media outlets and journalists slow down publication to wait for more information, I'm not sure there is any way to slow down the high-intensity commentary that streams out from the court of public opinion, which then seems to demand a spotlight.

Also, Jussie Smollett is potentially guilty of CRIMES not a HOAX.  The only HOAX was Smollett convincing the media that he was a victim of an actual crime.  Everything he accuses "45" of he is guilty of himself - lying, greed, selfishness.  The Chicago PD always knew this was fishy from the start and they won't stand for this ACTOR making a mockery of the police force and the city of Chicago at large.  Karma is swift and just for all - no one is immune from karma at the end of the day!

I don't know about the "swift" part, either.

Chaney is still alive, ain't he?

I hope he’s fired immediately, has to pay a hefty fine plus all the expenses for this investigation and maybe even does a little jail time. Not just an idiot but really a self-centered little piece of s$&@. Disgusting person.

Enough already.

Smollett made a very big mistake. He was ignorant, selfish and short sighted. That said, he should have his day in court. He’ll have to live with the weight of his actions for the rest of his life.

He did not ‘embarass’ Chicago or make a mockery of the Chicago PD. Chicago has done far worse to its citizens- particularly the Black, brown and poor citizens for decades. The Chicago PD has long been plagued with officers who lie, cheat, steal from and murder the citizens they’re paid to protect. The Chicago PD murdered Laquan McDonald and then with the help of City Hall suppressed the evidence for over a year. The Chicago PD ‘disappeared’ thousands of Chicago residents into a black site, deprived them of their constitutional rights, withheld their whereabouts from family and attorneys, tortured and assaulted them for days on end. The Chicago PD is light years away from claiming the high ground in any situation- best just to say, “Mr. Smollett has turned himself in to authorities”, and save the sanctimonious BS for another occasion.

And for the record, people who ignore/downplay racism and homophobia do so because they are racists and homophobes- not because an actor (who they didn’t know existed three weeks ago) lied about being assaulted.

While I can certainly take issue with a lot of what the Chicago police force has done, I think they have the high ground in this situation.

And for the love of god, people need to get a grip.  This is where "It's OK to punch a Nazi" logically goes, especially when we start changing the definitions.

he has admitted guilt so what’s this about “have his day in court”? That’s usually about there being some suspicion of innocence. He’s a fool. A selfish, egotistical a- - hole. He took serious issues of racism and homophobia and played with them for his own self-interest. He deserves the outrage and the insults being hurled at him.

He has not admitted guilt. His accomplices told on him.

Google due process

When you read the overwhleming facts and evidence shared so far, it’s hard to conclude anything beyond what an absolute idiot this guy is:

If this ever goes to trial, it will be a complete circus when all the details emerge.

how in hell did you go from Smollett to "punch a Nazi"?

And btw, we don't have a clue as to why the altercation took place, do we? All we have is assh*** Charlie Kirk blathering on about it.

Jumping to conclusions a bit, aren't you? hmmmm

eta: as for "high ground" - if only Chicago authorities could get half as mad when Chicago police kill innocent people, maybe we could take them seriously.

FLIMBRO - the voice of reason as usual.  The only person who got hurt by Jussie's actions is Jussie.  Unlike the white woman who lied on Emmett Till.  Or the countless other times lies were used to justify imprisoning/killing/torturing black people.
