Joe was a person you could always count on for a kind word. I don’t think I ever talk to him and didn’t feel better about myself and the world in general afterward.
He would always tell me that he knew Albert Einstein personally, and that I clearly had inherited Einstein’s mantle of genius.

Does anybody remember Joseph Lerner? Thinking about Maplewood staples, and he sure was one of the best. https://obits.nj.com/us/obituaries/starledger/name/joseph-lerner-obituary?id=13875698
He always told my wife he would take her to Hollywood and make her a star!
Great local character.
Not mentioned in his obituary, he had multiple times regaled me about meeting Ghandi when he was in service in India. And yes, he was quite the character.

Wait, i thought he was going to take me to Hollywood : )
I was a student at MMC when I first met Joseph Lerner. I'd see him walking down from Kings and around MW Village - always so pleasant and reminded me I was going to be a start, and he'd take me to Hollywood but only wanted 10%. I wasn't really aware of all of his life accomplishments until I googled him. What an incredible, fulfilling life. Hmm - anybody here remember the nice man who wore overalls all the time, and nothing else under it? He was cool, too.
I have fond memories of Joe. I first met him through the VFW, where he was an active member. Maybe that's why I always picture Joe in uniform. When I knew him, Joe was living in the Village in what became a storefront after he died. Add me to the list of people he was going to take to Hollywood and make a star.
