Let's remember, Jon Stewart (as he says all the time) is a FAKE newscaster! Although he clearly is a far better informed and talented interviewer than anybody in "real" news today.

It's supposed to be a joke - with some Irony - of course Stewart is a FAKE newscaster, and Williams is supposed to be a serious journalist - but duuuuhhhh .... the implication is that the FAKE newscaster is better suited for the job than the real ones, and the real one is ....fake.
