John Hurt dies
John Hurt played the protagonist, Winston Smith, in "1984." But, IMO, Hurt was most riveting in his role as the demented Caligula in "I, Claudius," one of the best televised series ever made.

A great actor. Ditto about his role as Caligula. That series was so tongue in cheek and wickedly funny while at the same time showing the brutal ways of the Roman Empire.
He was also great in The Elephant Man.
