It's book sale/bake sale collection time

This is super-advance notice, but given that everyone seems to be in spring-cleaning mode, I thought I'd put the ask out early for children's-book donations for our annual Kids v Cancer book sale/bake sale fundraiser, which will take place in our front yard on May 30, 9am-1pm.

If you are clearing shelves and have any children's books (board books through young adult) to spare, please consider donating them. I am happy to pick up from you, or you can leave them on my porch (38 Plymouth Avenue in Maplewood) any time, any weather. All books remaining from our sale are offered first to the inimitable @kidlit, for her literacy efforts in Orange, and then to local library sales.

When shall I bring our boxes full over!?

I think we should schedule that coffee or lunch we've been talking about and we can even make a car-to-car transfer!

My daughter did a brutal edit of her shelves; we'll see if I can get my son to do the same, but I'm not optimistic. He's way more sentimental.

This is a big step, in a family that never gives away books. But I figure that our paperbacks are not going to make it another 10 or 15 years, and if I ever have the honor of grandchildren, it would be my enormous pleasure to give new books -- many of which haven't even been written yet.

So I'll drop off soon.

Thank you, @j_r! If you saw my shelves, you'd see that I can't fault anyone for holding on to books, so thank you for whatever you come up with.

I may have several boxes for you!

I will check to see if we still have some.

I just loaded several boxes of books into my car, to move to your car next time I see you.

I'm determined not to miss this great opportunity to clear the kids' shelves, like I did last year!

Will start looking through our books.

Thanks, @pdg. The books are awesome! Our daughters are leading parallel lives--looks like they were ready to give up many of the same books at the same time. There's easily a summer's worth of escapism for several middle-school girls here now!

Hi - I have a name and number for a woman at Seton Hall who has a huge number of childrens books. I'll PM her info to you.

Awesome--thanks, @annesimms!

Okay! Unless I'm already expecting your books, or you already planned to bring us some, looks like we are set on books! Amazing.

We've got a super-sort going on here now and zillions of awesome books that can be yours, two weeks from today, for the low, low price of 25 cents apiece. There are so many gorgeous books here. Can't wait to share them. . . .

I forget--is there any way to edit the subject of a thread now? I'd love to take the word "collection" out.

Ach, zucca, I never got around to bringing my books over. Mind you, I can't get my son to clean out his bookshelves, so I only had a few board books which I might just give to a colleague with a new baby. One book I'd be interested in acquiring for her (I can't part with our beloved copy) is "Goodnight, Gorilla". If you happen to have one of those, I'd love it. If you can't hold books, that's fine. I'll plan to come by on Saturday and browse.

No worries, jasper. There's always next year (maybe). Or the SOPL sale. I know I said we'd take books till the last minute, but we must have a dozen boxes of picture books alone! So great, but totally full to the gills.

I feel like maybe I saw a copy of that book, but I'm not sure. Such a good one. If I come across it (too tired to check right now), I'll put it aside and let you know.

Thanks, zucca. It was one of our very favorites. I'll be sure to say hello when I come by.

Hey Zucca! We're looking forward to your annual very young => young adult booksale/fundraiser this Saturday.

Hoping for a beautiful, low-humidity day!

I've got bunches. Will drop them by.
