It's a princess!

Kate had a girl! I'm not big on "the royals," but this makes me happy for some reason. A little bit of happy news in the world today. I am anxious to hear what her name is...

She gave birth in like 2.5 hours...further proving Princess Kate is magical and so much better than regular people

I'll admit it- I love the royals. Or at least, William and Kate. They seem like lovely people and they make people smile. 

They say the second kid goes much quicker. I, for example, am a second child and was born 8 minutes after my mom got to the hospital. My second kid was sunny side up so that delayed things but she was still quicker than my first labor, which was a pleasant 36 hours.

I'm hoping her name is Diana. Partly because George was on our name list if we had a boy, so I'm worried either of our girls' names might have been on THEIR list...!

Are you serious about the name Diana? I am sure they will veer away from that heartache if they want the queen happy. Even though that is the name of Will's mother.  I l also find this couple appealing. Attractive, and much freer than Charles and Diana were allowed to be. I do wonder about how her being groomed to become his wife will affect her and the relationship over time. 

My FIRST labor was 2 hours 50 minutes and the second 2 hours 6 minutes.  What can I say, I bore easy...

And no need to justify this not being hard news.  MOL is a community conversation not a news service.  I SO agree with the need for a little happy talk now and again.

True, but if Kate has another little boy he will be behind his sister in succession to the throne . Not that it will get that far but no one thought that Elizabeth had a chance of being Queen either.

Totally serious about the Diana thing. Kate has her ring and looked distinctly Diana-esque with George's reveal. They've honored her in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. If there were any royals who would not worry so much about politics and just do what they wanted (and Will clearly loved his mom), it would be them. I think that's why people love them so much.

 I totally like that she is the first to be allowed to inherit should it ever come to a 4th in line in her lifetime! This is equality - if she were the first child she would have been 3rd in line. This is a big deal even if only in theory.

On the name thing its really a tough one. Somehow I think it needs to skip a generation and that the child of one of their children I can more easily see it happening. A way to honor their father, using Diana, his mothers name. Its more plausible as a second, not first name, in any case. I think having Diana as a first is tough in a lot of ways, IMO.

It's going to be Alice. Anybody want to place a bet?

Why Alice, LL?  I was the first on MOL to guess "George."     This time I'm going with "Elizabeth"    Not as confident, though.  I really have no idea.

Royal enthusiasts have been placing bets for weeks on the name the second child will be given. As of Saturday morning, the UK's Coral betting service reports that Alice has the highest odds of being the baby girl's name.

With a 5 to 4 ratio, Alice falls above the famed royal name of Elizabeth, which currently posts odds of 5 to 1. Next on the list is Charlotte at 6 to 1, Victoria at 8 to 1, and Alexandra at 12 to 1. There was some speculation that Prince William, 32, would pay homage to his late mother Princess Di by naming his own daughter Diana, but the name is showing odds of 14 to 1.

Nine hours after giving birth, The Duchess and Prince left the hospital with child . She looked impeccable, hair gorgeous and in heels.  Nine hours after I gave birth, all I wanted to do was sleep !

I wonder how her morning sickness was with the second pregnancy. Poor thing, it was just awful the first time, but I don't remember hearing as much this time.

It was reportedly very bad again.  I don't know if worse or not as bad than the first time, but certainly worse than most pregnant women ever have to undergo. 

Re names - the royal babies always get at least four names, so I would like to see Diana be one of them.  I was about to say that it's really up to William and Kate, and I assume that it is (or at least mostly) but I don't actually know what the "rules" are for royal baby naming.

 They're probably going to find out which name has the longest odds, then send an employee out on the sly to put a couple of grand on that one and then give that name to the child.

I heard it's Elizabeth Victoria Odiana.

But I could be all wrong!

It may have been a "quick" labor (I don't care what anybody says -- anything over 30 seconds is a long labor!), but I thought she was about 2 weeks late -- so that couldn't have been fun.  Still, she seems to mother beautifully and all the very best of luck and love to the entire family!
