iPhone found

Yesterday I found an iPhone.  I charged the battery and it's asking for a password---  great!   I want to return to its proper owner.  How best to go about this?  turn into police?  other idea(s)?

if they set up an emergency contact - you can hit 'emergency call' and see who answers.

You can also ask Siri , whose phone is this?

just be careful that the emergency call doesn't go to 911...any way you can call Apple and ask?  it can always be turned into the PD.

If all else fails..this suggests leaving the phone on and waiting for someone to call.....

Someone posted here on MOL, in the Please Help thread,

about a lost phone, just a few days ago, maybe check that out?

Tried messaging you but I don't see it in "my conversations."  Not sure if they went through (if they did....then you'll have several messages from me, sorry about that.  Of course, very excited at the possibility of recovering our missing phone.)  Thanks for posting!  If you didn't receive a message from me, please let me know.

Bring it to the lost and found at the police station.  If someone reported a lost phone to them that fits the phone's description or they have a way of using the phone to trace it's owner, that is the best way of getting the phone back where it belongs.

Yes, we have no way of knowing if the cover is still on, or if it's been damaged, etc.  Whatever you decide to do, if you just let us know, we'd appreciate it.  We've already "wiped" our phone when we assumed we weren't getting it back so not sure if there are identifiers or not - not exactly sure how all those security features work.

Of course - happy to go through the police station to see if we have a match - unfortunately, I'm sure we're not the only ones with a missing iphone!  Thanks again.

@caltoNj,

Haven,t rec,d any msgs...that,s usually first thing I check in AM.   Give me some info that would help ID if yours.

Sending you my email via PM.  Let,s see if that goes thru.

For some reason the message system isn't working - I did not receive your note.  We tried calling the iphone, but it goes straight to voicemail.  Happy to provide description - but would rather do it in a private forum if we can get this message system working.  We also filed a police report today.

Rather than trying to do this helter skelter I,ll just go to PD in about an hour. Hope it is in fact yours.

o.k. great.  We gave them all the information - serial number, model, cpu...you name it.  Fingers crossed.  Thank you.

there are serial numbers on the hardware....your carrier probably has a record of the serial number that can be matched to any 'wiped' phone..i don't know if it would show in any of the software

how about one of you post your email or phone number and then remove it when you reach each other.

walked over to MPD and dropped off. A little while ago.

CaltoNJ,  Sent you a PM this afternoon to test the system.  Did you rec?  it showed on my conversations list.  BTW, did you contact MPD?  was it your's?

The message system is working now - I sent you a note.  Thank you!

Do you know if the phone was Calto's? My son's phone was taken on Friday at Underhill. We didn't report it stolen yet, still hoping it would be returned. It was returned once a few years ago at CHS.

Hi Lisanolet,

You should file a lost property report with MPD.  Even if this one doesn,t match someone else may have found yours.

Agree with others, it only took a few minutes to report ours and we were told that sometimes they come across situations and they check phones (much like they check license plates on a traffic stop) so you never know.

We have not had a match for our phone.  According to a conversation I had with Maplewood PD today, they haven't had any phones turned in??  Not sure what's going on so we're going to follow-up again in a couple days and check.  Maybe the phone that was turned in was already claimed by someone else.

Today after school we went to Maplewood PD to fill out a report and ask about a phone turned in and they said no phones were turned in.

Probably different guys today.  Give them a little time.

Did anyone get any satisfaction  at MW PD?  I turned this in a full week ago today?  Even if it's not match for your lost phone...I'd like to know that at least handled it right.  Last posts said that PD didn't know of a returned phone.  So what happened to the one I turned in?

I'm checking again tomorrow - maybe it was misplaced and wasn't put through the process of recording, cross checking, etc. last time I called.  Either way, hope it makes it back to its owner.

Lisanolet, please also follow up.  I turned it in last Sunday afternoon about 3 PM.  I declined to make out a report.  So I def want them to own up to it
