Does anyone know what happened on Valley/Millburn Ave?

I was told a fire in that low apartment building.

Fire in the basement of the apartment building.

Maplewood Fire Department Releases Statement on Fire at 747 Valley Street

On July 14, 2021, at 1758hrs, Maplewood Fire Department Units Deputy 3, Tower 31 and Engine 32 responded for a fire alarm activation at 747 Valley St. MFD Engine 34 was unavailable due to those FF’s staffing our ambulance for a separate medical call occurring shortly before this incident.

Upon arrival Deputy 3 found a heavy smoke condition coming from the building. Fire was seen on the lower level. He requested mutual aid to the scene from Union, South Orange, Orange, Irvington, East Orange and Millburn Fire Departments, as well as, South Orange Rescue Squad and University Hospital EMS. Newark provided coverage for Maplewood Township. Maplewood Police were also on scene assisting with operations.

Both were transported to St Barnabas Medical Center by South Orange Rescue Squad for treatment of smoke inhalation. Two Firefighters suffered minor injuries. One with smoke inhalation and the other with heat exhaustion. Neither were transported to the hospital.

The Maplewood Building Department was on scene and determined the lower and first floors to be uninhabitable. The second and third floors were safe for the residents to return to. The Red Cross was on scene to assist the approximately ten residents who were displaced.

The Maplewood Fire Department conducted an investigation of the fire. The point of origin was found to be in a lower level apartment. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental in nature.

As further information becomes available, more details will be released.

Thanks, Joan. That was in the link I posted, but it would be more useful by itself.

Ooh, ok. Thanks everyone ! With all that’s been going on in Maplewood, I didn’t know what to think

I have seen a number of reports of  incident at the Maplewood pool — but nothing here. Another failure to communicate?

I saw it on Village Green, which reported emails from the township and said the township had posted a message on its own Facebook page and in the SOMA Lounge Facebook group.

There is now a thread on MOL regarding the incident at the pool on Saturday  that quotes from two hyperlocal media sources.  The media sources in turn quote from social media posts and official statements from the town.  All of these sources of information were available yesterday, some as early as Saturday afternoon.

It seems you just look for negatives to justify why you moved away from this liberal enclave…I’m sure there’s lots of negative things happening down in ocean county and surrounding areas to keep you busy, but you prefer to come on here to stir the caldron.

This is just a private bulletin board.  No one is under any obligation to post anything here.

Obviously, you have not read the threads on the shooting incidents in Maplewood, since you appear unaware of Township communication criticism comments here.

Taking potshots at me is a default setting for some posters, and rather pathetic.
