I need figs

I'm having a fresh fig jones and can't find any. Anyone seen any lately in the environs?

Did you check Trader Joes's? They had Black Mission Figs last year

I have gotten them at Trader Joes a few times this summer.

well, I'll be driving by today so I'll take a look. I've had TJ's figs in the past, and they're ok but I was hoping for some nice large ones.

A tree near me has some...but you have to come to Queensland to get them! cheese

Wegmans had them a few weeks ago

Costco had them last week.

We used to have about 6 fig trees in the house where I grew up. I didn't really appreciate what we had until I was about 20, but after that I came to understand what a special thing we had going there. We had green and purple varieties, and the purple ones would grow to be huge (at least compared to the apricot sized figs you usually find in stores around here.)

Make sure to pick up some prosciutto to wrap around them.

Take a drive to Ort farms http://www.ortfarms.com/ They have luscious, Jersey Fresh Figs! The season is short, but they should have them for another 2 weeks.

whole paycheck has them

Whole Foods (new one in Clark) had beautiful looking ones a few days ag

Oh man I want to go to Long Valley RIGHT NOW. Nothing like figs right off the tree. I did just get some lovely ones delivered yesterday from Fresh Direct. The usual purple variety and then "tiger stripe" figs, which are green and yellow striped on the outside and ridiculously sweet and dark purple on the inside.

Second the FreshDirect recommendation. We just had the tiger figs on pizza last night. Yum!

Just bought some at Whole foods. I've only had figs at a restaurant. Ideas for how to serve them? While I like the taste, I think I'd prefer them with or on something rather than just eating plain.

Fig Salad with Goat Cheese and Toasted Pecans recipe below. I like to use the balsamic glaze that is sold at Trader Joe's in lieu of plain balsamic vinegar.

Here is the pizza recipe we used. Highly recommended!

I can't even give two...

I couldn't remember where I saw them, but I remembered it was when I was in Roanoke. They were all over. I think it's fig season so you should be able to find them.

Oh and that fig pizza looks incredible

Drummerboy, Ort Farms participates in the farmers' markets at the link; they were in Millburn today, so if you take the ride to Long Valley to get some figs this week and you like them, you may not have to travel too far to get some more next week, if they are still available then.

I also saw some at Trader Joe's last week. You may also want to try the Short Hills Kings--you could call them first to see if they have some (973) 258-4000.

If you find yourself in the Monmouth County area (Colts Neck), Delicious Orchards has an extensive selection of produce--it's also a fun destination for a "foodie", especially once the Shore traffic subsides and the weather gets cooler (so perishables don't spoil on the drive home). Do you eat the skin or peel them somehow?

You eat the skin.

Yeah I've been to Delicious Orchards not too long ago. Neat place.

Stuff them, wrap them, grill them...

Just fresh, with Greek yoghurt and honey...

Or plain as they are and maybe a chunk of lovely hard cheese so you can alternate nibbles...

cool mad

I found some at WF. Small but tasty. Just had some split in half, sauteed in butter with a little blue cheese on top. (no grill, or would have gone that route)

yummmmmm

Thank you all.

drummerboy, if you haven't fully satisfied your craving for fresh figs, Shop Rite has them advertised this week for 4.99 for a 16 oz. package. Also, Ort farms had some late last week; the clerk suggested calling the store on Tuesday, (908) 876-3351, to see if figs were on the truck headed to the Millburn farmers' market.

Thanks. WF has supplied me sufficiently for this season. I did see the ones in SR yesterday though.
