HUMMUS Recall

HUMMUS http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm441863.htm

Well now I'm glad @lynnb and I have been throwing away unopened hummus from our sons lunch bag. I almost feel bad for griping about him only eating the crackers.

Wow, it's Sabra, probably the leading brand...

My son has had the six-pack singles for snack almost every day at school...

Holy cow. We have been practically living off the kind with the olives on top for a very long time now. Will have to check the SKUs against what's still in the fridge, although it doesn't look like the olive flavor is in issue here.

Thanks for the heads up. Just tossed an unopened container that almost matched the first product on their list -- but expired a couple days later. Why take the chance....

Just checked a brand new container from Maplewood Kings, purchased today, and it is on the recalled list.

I never buy Sabra. I like the Kings brand plain hummus.

I returned the hummus to Kings. The manager said he thought all their hummus had been checked and cleared, and perhaps the hummus they carried was from a different lot number. (There was no lot number that I noticed on the individual package.) He said he would look into it further, and they refunded my purchase price.

After checking the OP's link above, I see that there was a Use By date given in the recall, and that detail was not included in the NY Times/Associate Press article that I used as my source. Perhaps the Use By date of the affected products differed from the one on my package. Since I returned the package, I can no longer check that detail.

If you bought Sabra hummus from Kings recently, you may want to check it against the list linked to by the OP. My container of hummus matched the type (Classic), size (10 oz), UPC (040822011143), and SKU (300067) of the first item on the linked listing. I don't know if it matched the Use By Dates. And perhaps the 4 digits preceding the Use By date are the lot number referenced by the store manager.

Do they have single-serve cups?

About a week and a half ago, I picked up my standard choice of Sabre Classic hummus at the shopRite. About a day or so after eating less than 2 ounces or so, I got really sick. For 2 or 3 days I couldn't leave the house. By last weekend, I had a sore throat and headache and was relieved to see a cold coming on! I can cope with bad colds!

I didn.t connect the dots until I read this thread and checked the hummus I had not touched again. Bingo! Same numbers, etc.

I will bring it back for a refund when this cold is better.

Got the refund, but the store clerk wouldn't give an answer to how many others had returned the product. It just may be that the recall hasn't gotten enough exposure.

I can attest that I had three days of misery!

And then came the MOL  changeover! Followed by avatar angst!
