How "worry-free" is PSE&G's Worry-Free service? archived

I keep getting these glossy brochures in the mail and have contemplated getting the service for our various appliances. Has anyone out there actually needed to use it? If you did, did PSE&G fix the appliance(s) in a timely fashion, or were you disappointed with their performance/attitude?

We have worry-free service on our 10yo (I think) gas range that came with the house. For the cost of the parts and service each time we have it repaired (we have some part or other changed yearly, due to wear and tear), it's worth it. The technician knows what he's doing, and comes when we call him. Usually, it's the same guy. He said that he's amazed that a range this old can be covered by the plan.

We have it on the furnace. Have had to call them twice. Once they came out the same day, the other time the next morning. Both times they did quick work, and we didn't pay a thing.

I'd definitely get it on your furnace. As for less-expensive items, I think it's much more of a gamble.

I used it several times for our washer and dryer and once for dishwasher and stove. The biggest problem was having to wait close to 2 weeks to have someone out to fix the washer, so we ended up having to spend $80 to use a laundromat. Other than that, I'd recommend it for peace of mind and a fair value over not knowing how much a repair person would charge.

They cover our hot water boiler. It wouldn't fire on the first really cold day a few weeks ago and the guy showed up within five hours and replaced the thermo-couple.

The issue with this service for heating is that they don't provide maintenance (see my Hot Wate Heat for Dummies thread).

We have it on the furnace, the washer and the dryer. When the dryer belt broke, PSE&G told me it would be a week until they could fix it. I was stuck with a load of wet clothes. Husband put a new belt in. We have a JennAir electric cooktop that broke. PSE&G tried to fix it but couldn't find the parts. Husband improvised parts and fixed it himself. We have ancient double electric ovens that PSE&G can't or won't even put on the service plan because they'te "too old" even though they work great. When they need servicing, husband does it. I guess that we'll keep the PSE&G service contract on the furnace and the washer. We're getting rid of the miserable JennAir cooktop next week, and everything else is humming along OK, even the ancient ovens.

I have it on everything. I imagine if the furnace/boiler etc went in the middle of a cold spell, they would be out pretty quick. I have had a call out on my stove, wall oven and washing machine, each time it took 10-14 days for them to come.

We used to have American Home Shield, I can't remember the exact cost but I believe that it wasn't that much more than getting all of the coverage's offered by PSE&G, and they covered more. One thing I liked about it was that they even covered the electrical wiring.
Check with your home owners insurance agency, they may very well offer these coverage's also, mine does.

Lizziecat, does your husband offer a plan...... :rolling:

Unfortunately, no. Mr. Lizziecat has always been able to fix or make almost anything. It is one of the perks of marrying an engineer.
