calliope mentioned the importance of carrying a water bottle while walking in this hot weather.

How can I teach my dogs to drink from a bottle? I've tried.

Waffle has a particular problem, because she seems to have suffered some trauma over eating and drinking. She prefers not to eat or drink when anyone, dog or human, is nearby. She absolutely will not drink while outside.
this is what i do: i pour the water slowly into my cupped hand from the bottle while henry and logan drink from said cupped hand.

OS, I do the same. Eventually, they learn to lick at any water bottle, any type opening... dogs are smart. IIf they are thirsty, they drink. Your babies must be feeling the extreme heat, which is so hard for the little smushies. They're fortunate to be with you!

OS I do same! He has gotten good at drinking out of various things, especially when we're in the car.

I get one of those sports bottles with the cap that you have to squeeze or suck to make the water flow and squirt a stream slowly into my pup's mouth while he or she laps it up. It's all about controlling the flow so they can actually drink and teaching them that there's something good coming out of this weird thing you're shoving in their face. Put a dab of peanut butter on the end of the bottle to get the lapping started and then slowly squeeze a little water out as they lick to get them used to it.

cmr252, that's a good idea. And it's an excellent practice to help keep your dogs hydrated during the hot months when you take them out for walks.
