How to make faded black clothes black again?

I have some black clothes that are in good shape but the color is fading.

Is there a dry cleaner who dyes, or some other way to get them blacker?

Ti

Mem - Perhaps you should change the title. It sounds like a clothing drive. Maybe Gleason's could help.

Thank you. I know how to edit the copy, how to edit title please?

mem - when you look on the discussions list - you'll see an "Edit" link:

mem, I also think it might be worth a try to contact Gleasons.

I am about to take a shot at dyeing two pairs of my husband's jeans because his bosses don't like the weathered/slightly dirty look so many jeans have now. They say it just looks dirty. Which, as the person in charge of laundry, makes me feel a bit humiliated. confused

I found some instructions online for using Rit black dye for this. I'll let you know how they come out.

But a good cleaner might be able to help with this.

Oh! Never thought to ask... What is the fabric content? That could make a big difference to how well they take dye.

I have had good results rehabbing black cotton clothing with Rit dye. The garment has to be washable, and able to tolerate warm/hot water "just this once."

Does adding some Borax help?

Sorry for the thread jump, but I couldn't resist. cheese

BTW, if it's polyester, don't bother. It won't take dye well. If the clothes are cotton, you are in good shape. Just be sure to use hot water with the dye, and use a stick to stir the pot or bucket.

I cannot get that classic episode of the Dick van Dyke show out of my head, where they dyed a cloud costume for Richie black for a school play, got it all over their hands, then went to a gala dinner celebrating diversity.
