how to inform your contacts that you have a new mobile number archived

hey mol'ers, long time long time. yes, yes i know, why change your number, blah blah blah. don't ask. anyway, i need to let all of my contacts know my new number, and i'd like to do it easily. i could send a single txt msg to all of my contacts at once, but i don't want anyone to reply. is that possible? droid razr.

i'm not posting it on facebook, but i could send a single message via facebook, but that would have the same potential problem (i don't want everyone's inboxes cluttered with a reply to me that goes to everyone.

any good ideas?
thx!

Why don't you just text and say in your text that it is a mass text and there's no need to reply, just update your #

^^^^ exactly what I have done !! And some people have send mass message threw Facebook too.

i'm just worried a few people will reply and clutter up everyone's inbox. perhaps they should just all get over it. thanks fluger and harleyq!

Too bad there's no BCC like email.

Can you e-mail everybody and use BCC for that?

If you don't have e-mail addresses for everybody, at least use it for the contacts where you have e-mail. That'll cut down on the size of the list you need to text.

OR ... could you use an e-mail-to-text-message gateway, and use BCC on that? Then you'd be sending individual text messages, not a group message. I think.

Your welcome oh oh your right they should all get over it wink

I ported my old cell phone number to Google Voice and then used the call forward feature to re-route the calls to my old cell phone number to my new cell number.

I "parked" my old cell phone number. If you call it, you get a recording of my voice saying that my number has changed and my new number is XXX-XXX-XXXX. "Please update your address book with that as my new mobile number."

Then I say, "Your call will now transfer to my new number. Please wait."

And it transfers.

You can hear how it works if you want. Feel free to call my old number: 732-762-3792.

I don't know any big companies who do this, but I can do it for you for $5/month plus 2.5 cents per minute for forwarded calls. If you would like me to do this, email me at tom@puregoldconsulting.com or call me at my old number above and make a note of my new number when you hear the recording.

http://3jam.com/ can do it for you flava, and a little bit more too (such as text forwarding, visual voicemail...) while you are waiting for people to change their contact info to your new number.

you may also want to contact your carrier, there are some that will park your number for you.

or, you could just port your old phone number to Google Voice (I think they charge $20 for that), and no monthly fee, keep it parked there, and keep using it for as long as you need for call forwarding, voicemail, & texts, you can even continue to make calls from that number on your new phone too (well at least with most smart phones), using either the Google Voice app on the phone, or by setting your phone to route all calls made from the now ported Google Voice number.
