How to get rid of pachysandra? archived

We have way too much pachysandra in our yard and we started digging some up. However, I'm a little concerned that there still seem to be a lot of little roots left even after digging and digging. Should we worry about leaving scraps of roots in the soil? We dug in some humus and mulched our first small experimental area to prepare it for planting with impatiens. Can pachysandra resprout if there are remains of the roots underground? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!
I'd be glad to come over and dig some up (one man's meat being another man's poison).

However, that's not the question. It's usually best to first spray it with Roundup. Give it a couple of days to get into the roots and THEN dig it up. Roundup breaks down in the soil after a few days. You can then plant your impatiens within a week.

I successfully eradicated pachysandra by covering the bed with thick layers of newspaper, held in place with a trunkload of the township's free mulch. Left it in place from fall to spring, then pitchforked everything together and replanted the bed. To my amazement, it worked!
But you shouldn't need to do this if you have already dug most of it up. You may get some resprouting from leftover roots, but as metaphysician says, you can shoot it with Roundup (being careful not to overspray anything you want to survive!), or just pull. You will eventually eradicate it. That was my approach with a bank of English ivy -- some of the roots were just too tenacious to pull, and they still resprout, but less and less vigorously every year. I'm winning!

I don't know how but my dog killed ours. We used to have it all over the backyard.

The best way is with a flame thrower, seriously!!

When we removed a large tree the pachysandra began to die because of the change in the micro climate. I pulled the rest up, or what I thought was the rest. Several years later a pachysandra plant or two or three would sprout up.
