How should I prepare for a kitchen Reno?

Requesting tips on preparing to not have a kitchen for a few weeks... Did u move your fridge out? What did u eat? How? Lol. Trying to figure out how to shift our schedule for the two weeks while work is happening (not doing a full reno, so fingers crossed its not much longer than that!)

Valium, vodka, and get the divorce lawyer's number on speed dial.

Lol. Noooo, please don't let that be the answer!

I blogged my kitchen reno here. It was in 2011. At the end, I had a list of observations.

Most people I know who survived a complete kitchen gut and reno used microwaves and disposable plates and cutlery. If you're feeling adventurous maybe try a hot plate, but personally I wouldn't since clean up won't be easy. Yes, disposable plates and cutlery are bad for the environment, but if you try to wash dishes in a bathroom sink the stress on top of the stress of the renovation will be unbearable. My sister out the fridge in the bedroom during their project (they were also having work done on the living room and dining room at the same time) and regretted it early on since she couldn't get any late night snack since the light bulb would wake up her husband.  oh oh

Oh, and lots of takeout.

I mostly just used my microwave....also had a hot plate and toaster oven available.  I wasn't redoing the floor so my fridge could stay..just had to be shifted a little as needed...but if you can't do that..definitely move it ....if you have to, get some temporary flooring to put on top of a rug...

i ended up without a kitchen for 10 weeks....i was doing the bathroom at the same time...they spent 4 weeks on the bathroom..and then stopped working for a couple weeks, then there was an issue with the plumbing they had forgotten to correct that added a couple weeks on.

make sure you have the BBQ good to go

Light some money on fire in your backyard.  It will help you prepare for the reno.

We are getting for our own kitchen Reno, although it is only cabinets and backsplash/counters. Fingers crossed. Joy, I think I wil re-read your list, jus for the heck of it.

And I think we will make sure to have our little dorm fridge plugged in somewhere and the microwave ready and working before we embark. Toaster oven, too. They all sound like a lifeline.

We were out of commission for a scandalously long time, due to firing our first contractor and finding a replacement, and then waiting for ordered items to arrive. (Flooring was especially delayed.) Fortunately I'd set up a pretty successful kitchen in our basement, where we have a laundry sink (I don't think a kitchen can really function without a water source) and a second fridge. I packed up and stored nearly everything except a toaster oven, microwave, rice cooker, deep fryer which could boil water (vegetables! pasta!), and a few plates. I could and did make nearly everything, and to be honest, the novelty was often sort of fun.

crazy as it sounds as you are probably paying good money to your contractor build in either an incentive if the job is delivered on time and on budget or $ consequence if he goes over -- they tend to take on more jobs than they can deliver.  Develop your own project plan and review it with him on a regular basis - know when inspections are done and how far in advance they need to be scheduled -- this is stuff a contractor should do but they often work more on a day to day mentality than overall plan - so if he finished framing on a Wed and inspections are done on wed you have to wait an entire week to get this done (and often work stops while they wait for an inspection) Know when things have to be ordered and delivered etc..

I have a friend who put a big white board in her kitchen - one side had a calendar with key dates and the other side an area for notes they could leave for each other -project was delivered on time and they had few miscommunications
