Maplewood residents - Bulk Drop-off tomorrow, Sat., Sept. 17th at the recycling center on Boyden. Get rid of your crap!

Thanks for the reminder!

why do Maplewood residents bother with bulk drop off when you have curbside pickup?

For some, curbside bulk is only once per month. I'd much rather drop off my newly trashed bulk (thanks, dog!) tomorrow rather than wait til Sep 31...

Curbside pick-up is once a week in Maplewood.

My service provides it only on the final Saturday of each month and one must call in advance to schedule it.

Your garbage company offers curbside bulk collection every month. You are allowed to put out up to 4 bulk items per month at no additional charge. You must call your garbage company to schedule an appointment.

There are two companies serving Maplewood. Residents choose the one they want to use. WM bulk pick-up is one bulk item a week. Not sure same holds true for Waste Industries.

Sometimes there is need to put out more items than the one per week or four per month allowed.

Thus, bulk drop off still meets the needs of enough Maplewood residents for the bulk drop off days to serve a purpose.

ETA: Lanky's above cited link is out of date and not fully accurate. Policy may have changed after the page on the town website was written.

Not certain why this such a controversial issue / why people are so compelled to challenge the desire to get rid of waste outside the perimeter of one's own yard / curbs. I will sometimes bring my recycling to the recycling center during the week rather than wait for Monday just to rid my house of boxes etc. [MOL minds blown]

I took the question as asking about the possible issues or advantage of each, rather than as incredulous. I know I'm now more informed about the differences in the various services and options.

Not challenging, just trying to envision a life with curbside pickup.

Thanks for the heads-up "Cats". I just rid of a ton of stuff that I was otherwise preparing to slowly dole out to Waste Management one bit at time.

And the 1 item per week information is helpful for those who have WM and may not have realized this was now an option, saving them from having to load up their car and drive down to DPW to sit in line.

crap - just saw this. Missed out

For future reference, -the line at DPW is hit or miss. I was there at 9:15 and drove right up with no wait, -no line at all.

This is for WM - one item per week. WI is still once a month - up to 4 items. I don't believe there is a limit (or at least not that lie) for the bulk drop-off.
