Haven't seen anything from Meta and there's no way to search for users. ;-(

I'm sure he's either lurking or has a network of friendly secret spies question if anyone who's close to him is reading, hi from way-down south!! The parrots outside the kitchen window are turning into really funny vaudevillians, I suspect some nesting & mating might be happening soon.

Annie, was it fun? Our PM has ruined most of our holidays with stupid political stuff so he tried to stay quiet for Queen's Birthday. The rest of his team made a mess of things though, they can't help themselves. Was Canada Day about Canada or politics??

It's the celebration of the non-violent exchange of power from a British ruled colony to an independent nation of Canada in 1867.

Since we are living in the US it's always a low key affair of secret Canadian handshakes and furtive hand written notes. ;-)

We actually stick a bunch of Canadian flags in our lawn and wish everyone a Happy Canada Day...

We used to do our celebrations in a suitably laid-back haphazard-version of patriotism: the mark of being Aussie was to not show it, and to be very egalitarian. But it started to change in the Howard Years (late 90s) and much more noticeably in the last couple under Abbott, who is more right-wing than Harper and who actually knighted Prince Philip as an Australia Day honour this year (for the Duke of Edinburgh scouts program). I want our 'laid-back' and friendliness back, I want the knee-jerky belligerence gone. It's too tiring.

Just now saw this thread.

I wished him a happy Canada Day earlyand often yesterday.

We discussed how the Hudson Bay Area in Canada has a smidgen less gravity than the rest of the world and I sent him a 'Name the Canadian' quiz that the Guardian had on Facebook.

That should hold him...
