Has anyone watched "Stranger Things"?

Netflix Original series very well done. Great acting, compelling story, terrific music, and harks back to the 80's. Influenced by the likes of E.T., The Goonies, Stand By Me, Close Encounters of The Third Kind, Poltergeist, and The X-Files.

I'm halfway through. Enjoying it. Glad to see Winona back.

Binged watched it over a weekend. We really enjoyed the story, acting, music - and are happy to hear that there will be a second season.

It was good! I wonder if they'll continue the with the same characters or have a complete story altogether - like True Detective. (also - who just posted as anonymous - I was hoping we fixed that bug)

The second season will continue with the same characters and plot line. The end of season one left many things unexplained and left a good cliffhanger for its continuation.

I guess I didn't pay enough attention during the denouement, but what was the cliffhanger? Leaving stuff for the empowered girl at the portal?

Will was also shown vomiting/coughing up a slug/worm thing and flickering between normal life and the upside down.

Just completed it over the weekend! LOVED IT! Thought it would be lame because it was kid dominated BUT...these kid actors are incredible, the story line is incredible and all the actors are incredible (sans Modine as I'm not a huge fan). Enjoyed seeing Winona back on her game.

BTW, who is the actor playing the Sheriff? He's pretty damn awesome.

Maybe you are in the Upside Down. Look for the portal. smile

Tons of media about this series. Enjoyed it thoroughly. I too am happy to see Winona back onscreen.

Also, what were those egg-like objects the Sheriff saw in the Upside Down?

Just finished it. Very cool. Was kinda hoping Nancy wouldn't end up with Steve, but c'est la vie. Looking forward to season 2.

And we saw the sheriff get into a car with some strange people and it didn't look good for him!

I REALLY enjoyed this series, the kids were phenomenal, the sheriff, Winona...great stuff.

A few plot quirks, but willing to overlook them--e.g., how exactly was the boy communicating via light bulbs? why wasn't there more concern over Barbara's disappearance?

The light bulbs flickers is his energy radiating sans verbal communication. You've seen it before in horror films - when good or evil is present, lights on/off indicating something is there; evil getting through via circuitry.

Barbara is a good question. Sure she had parents and friends. Her death didn't seem important overall and I found that sad and strange w/in the plot. Poor Barb.

The scene where Winona is talking to her son via the Xmas lights clutched in her hands--blink once for yes, twice for no--was too much of a stretch for me. Besides, it implies that the boy was aware that he could control the lights ... somehow. The part with the alphabet letters on the wall was the same kind of thing--made for exciting drama, but not very believable given the particular circumstances.

Yes, the Barbara things bothered me. They wrote it off with pretty much one line--something to the effect that people thought she ran away. Too easy.

And probably just me, but I had a little trouble accepting how well the girl handled that gun. It seemed a little too big for her hand and apparently had no recoil.

All that being said, it was a fun series, and I'll be back for season 2.

My husband and I are big fans of anything even slightly SciFi and were REALLY disappointed by this series. Heard great things about it and felt it just fell flat. Frankly, we were bored the whole way through. Didn't think the characters were interesting / engaging, story elements seemed lifted from many of the films you mentioned, pace was sooooo slow, SFX pedestrian, etc.

Realize that we're in the VAST minority here. Wondering what we were missing...

The internet went crazy over Barb - she became a meme.

Really? I didn't know that. How funny.

@eliz -- Ha ha ha. They forgot the reptile slithering out of her mouth...

just finished and loved everything about it. It's been a long time since a show "felt" like being in the 80s. Loved the nostalgic way it was done - like Close Encounters, ET and Poltergeist all rolled into one. The child playing Eleven was mesmerizing. Well- acted all around.

I was getting sad because it seemed they were wrapping the whole thing up but the last few minutes were some great teasers. Is Eleven alive?!?! Glad it's coming back for a season 2.

Great show!

"You can't end the campaign that way! It's too rushed and it doesn't make sense!"

I love it when the writers get meta in a show.

Just finished it. Stunning. I was that age in the early 80s, rode my bike everywhere and played D&D and probably hunted a few monsters, too. I absolutely loved this show and can't wait for season 2.

I watched at the urging of my son. He said it was his new fave show so I wanted to check it out. I loved it too - despite some small plot gaps. What I think I loved most was the 80's nostalgia and how authentic it all felt. I was about their age and that time so i connected to the show deeply - especially the kids. I immediately felt like I knew them from my own childhood.

I just finished it last night and I absolutely loved it. What I really like is that there were no loose ends (they didn't go all Lost/X-Files on us), except for the last 5 minutes where they added some slight twists to feed season 2.

One thing that stuck with me after watching the series was the reminder of brutal and unchecked school bullying was back then. I was repeatedly bullied in school, even beat up a couple of times, and I remember feeling so alone and unprotected. I know we still have a long way to go in ending bullying in our schools today, but I can see from my sons' schools how awareness programs, zero-tolerance policies and in-school counseling are making schools a safer place to learn. Now if we can only stop one big bully from entering the White House....

Well, while not a loose end, there is the JFB movement.
