Thank you so much for posting this! I'm listening now and am knocked out. Love hip hop and was expecting cheese, but this is phenomenal. Thanks again!

I might have to do with this for a while as I imagine getting tickets will be next to impossible...

It's really terrific. I'm already a fan of his from In The Heights, but I think this is a whole other level. You really have to pay attention though, there's SO much detail (and I'm realizing how rusty I am on my American history...). The performances are terrific as well, and I really hope the actor playing Aaron Burr, Leslie Odom Jr, is nominated for a Tony for this role.

Tickets are on sale for the spring which is probably your best bet unless you want to pay a fortune through a broker!

The cast recording is now available to buy on iTunes!! I pre-ordered it so it was downloaded to my phone this morning oh oh Apparently it's also on Spotify.

cool! was JUST reading about this play in The Nation.

One of the greatest things about "Hamilton" is that it inspires folks to find out more about such a vital part of American history. Lin-Manuel Miranda, upon reading the Ron Chernow Hamilton bio, couldn't believe that a film or play had never been done about Alexander Hamilton before.

I bought tickets for next May. The music borders on genius.

PeggyC, that's true. But I also think the entire concept is reflective of Miranda's genius. He reads an 800-page biography and his first thought is "how has no one made this a musical?" I'd wager to guess no one else even THOUGHT about that!

You can stream free on Spotify too! That's what I do at work oh oh

I'm going in February. Should I listen ahead of time or be surprised. I am not a hip hop fan but even to me, the clips I've seen look really good.

Hence, the recent MacArthur Genius grant for Mr. Miranda.

This is one musical I'd willing to shell out the $$ to see. Hmmm.

Hmm... since you actually have tickets and are going soon(ish), I might wait. It's a sung-through musical so you really hear almost all of it on the recording. It's not that there are any surprises (not like Book of Mormon or a show like that!) but it's awesome to let it unfold while you're there watching.

Whereas I had my husband listen to it, because there's no chance we're getting tickets anytime soon oh oh I went with friends for my birthday. And the upside is if you are NOT going to see it soon, you can listen to it and appreciate most of it! The staging is great but the brilliance is definitely in the words, music and performances.

You should read the 800-page biography and then listen to the music grin

I'm working backwards from this. I was inspired to read the novel but honestly, I feel like I'm learning so much from the 2.5 hour musical it's hard to motivate oh oh Every time I listen I catch another glimmer.

Like for example, I had no idea Alexander Hamilton founded the NY Post. I learned that one of the umpteenth times I listened... it's almost a throwaway line.
