Halloween Trick or Treaters

I had so many well-behaved and adorable kids stop for candy and the costumes were great, too. One parent said they had come from Harding Township for the event. This doesn't happen there, houses are too far apart!

We didn't have many on our block - and I'd bought extra candy and put our house on the trick or treat map, too. LOL The kids who did show up were very pleasant, nice costumes and it was fun to see them and talk to them. Maybe people don't come to our street because we're on a fairly steep hill?

I'll donate the extra candy to the collection bins for service members, but I wish I knew why there were so few kids trick or treating on our street (we're in Maplewood, not far from the Municipal Building).

What Trick or Treat map? We were a little slow. A trickle throughout the day with one hot period 6:30-7:30. Almost 200, near Clinton. Our problem is that there are so many dark houses on our block. Kids/parentsmust look down and decide it isn't worth it and turn the corner.

And yes, almost everyone says thank you and many compliments on our pumpkins. Sweet little kids and polite older ones.

I was also impressed with how many kids asked how many pieces they were allowed to take. Very fun night! My little ones enjoyed handing out candy after we were done trick-or-treating ourselves.

We decided to call it a night and left the bowl outside. My 6-year-old son wrote instructions- "take one if there's a lot of people. Take two or three if there's one." Not sure if his rules were followed since the bowl was empty pretty quickly cheese

My street (or my part of it) was like a ghost town. I had one person park in front of my house early, around 3ish, and the kids were really aggressive with the bell. Rang three times and by the time I got to the door they were moving on (I called to them and they came back but they were rude so I gave them a piece each, figuring I was in for a long night).

Wrong. Two other groups came and one was relatives.

I ran out for a few minutes and noticed tons of activity all around but barely a car down my street which was really bizarre.

we had a trickle of kids then some big waves of kids. not a single grabby unpleasant kid or teen in the bunch.

i gave out candy and a bunch of small toys that have been sitting around too long. one, apparently, worth $100. on ebay - according to my grown child.

where are the collection bins for service members, where we can donate left-over candy?

This year's trick or treaters were awesome--polite, cute, and so many of them that I ran out of candy before 7 pm! Normally we do not get that many until later when it becomes mostly teens. No one rang the bell after I closed down and my mums that I forgot to remove from the porch not only stayed put but were also complimented by one group of goblins!.

We took Mom out for her 87th BD so we left 2 bowls out with a note saying help yourself but leave some for other trick and treaters. When we got home at 8, although the bowls had been gotten into, there was still plenty to last till we shut down at 9. Was half expecting for both bowls to be empty and was pleasantly surprised that they weren't.

I gave out 300 pieces by 6:30 and then left. I hear there were lots more to come on Courter.

Crazy busy on Prospect (at my sister's)and I suspect it would have been more so but many houses were dark because of parents taking their children out.

I'm in a new neighborhood this year, and I was told there weren't many kids. I did my due diligence however and got plenty of candy. I was surprised to see a steady stream of kids before and after I took my son out. Most of the kids were cute and polite, but I am sad to say that my son left the candy bowl out unattended for one minute and a family came along and emptied the whole bowl into their bags, including the parents. Then they had the nerve to ask if I had anymore!

Don't let it spoil your experience... There will always be rotten apples. So sorry you had a bunch of them in your first year

All the kids we had were great- though far fewer than in years past. We're near town and I think typically people trick-or-treat on the way back to their cars from the parade, and we didn't have that crowd this year.

Busy day yesterday! I was proud to live in our community as groups of teens and tweens came through and were incredibly friendly and polite, and all happily followed our rule of No "trick or treat", no candy!

We had many very cute and polite trick-or-treaters. So many that I had to scrounge around the cupboards for something to hand out after giving my husband grief for being stingy with the candy. Oops! A highlight of the evening and close to the end was an awesome rendition of "Grease Lightning" by a passel of Pink Ladies. Thanks, girls!

We had twice as many trick or treaters this year and while most were polite, the next morning we found our property littered with candy wrappers and some teens had pulled out the stakes to one of our inflatables and knocked it over. They were hammered in so it had to be deliberate. Disappointing.

The candy wrapper litter everywhere you look is certainly disappointing. Wish more parents would actually pay attention to their kids and what they're doing, instead of staring at their phones or yacking nonstop with other parents... I saw lots of this when I was out with my kid and her friends. When they asked whether they could eat a piece of candy, I said, "Yes, but make sure you put the wrapper in your bag so you can throw it out when we get back."

There was a surveillance camera video of exactly this on the news this morning. They didn't say what town it was from, though. So there are more parental creeps out there than just this one.

We had none this year. The front of our home is being renovated. Through the "CAUTION" tape, construction debris, the cones on the stairs and the front door wrapped in heavy plastic, I assume many thought it was decoration -- it was not. Some crawled under this mess and onto debris and managed to still ring the bell. I even heard parents encouraging little ones to "ring the bell" which baffled me given what they saw.

Kibbegirl - you have got to be kidding! Wow

They must have thought it was decorations? That seems kooky.

As the parent of a young child who brought home over 100 pieces of candy (she loves to count) I say please be stingy with the candy! One piece per house is fine! >smile<

I was as shocked as you. I eventually turned off the front lights which sucked because it's so dark on our street and I wanted them to at least have some guiding light, but I didn't want to chance someone falling off our semi-constructed porch or damage the work. Wow is right.
