Gwyneth Paltrow says, ". . .French fries are my life!". . .

Really?  This woman has needed a better PR team for some time now.  She comes across as such a phony. She just won "Most Hated Celebrity"  Maybe the people who buy the $600 casual dresses on her website can relate to her better than I can. Maybe there are a lot of people buying from her site, so she feels she makes the right impression to the right people.  That obviously would not be me.

At the risk of making the wrong impression: That was, for the record, three years ago. (Note the time element at the start of the article.)

Really?  It just came up on some feed for me today.  I think people still hate her, right?  Did she redeem herself? Oh no.  I usually don't follow celebrities.  Anyway, we can just talk about obnoxious celebrities instead or even nice ones.  I was trying for more of a lighthearted topic for summer, instead of the election.

Looks like the interview is new; it's just that an old topic came up.

Don't let me be a spoilsport. We Philly fans have been known to boo a celebrity once or twice.

Please don't be so hard on poor Gwyneth. after all, she has it sooo much harder than parents who work 9-5 jobs just trying to make ends meet.

I have to admit, Gwyneth does seem to deserve the "Marie Antoinette" award more than most. She has irritating cluelessness down to a science. There is an airy superiority about her that is difficult to like.

Looks like I lost the game.

Hate if you must. She's still smokeshow.

No love for her or for celebrity obsession in general.  Not looking for a fight but I find that threads like this, even though ostensibly negative, are implicitly based on the presumption that celebrities are important.  They're all tweeting their self-important thoughts, and alleged life lessons, and observations on current events all day long.  The best revenge is to ignore them.

Come on bub, if you don't like celebrities, than don't read the celebrity threads.  I can see your point of view, and I'm always a bit embarrassed to start a celebrity thread.  But, celebrities are important, even if we know they are shallow, lacking talent and not worthy of the never ending attention.  They are important because lots of people pay attention to them and they influence those people.  That influence can be helpful, such as when they started bravely coming out in public, at the risk or their careers.  Or when they actually sound human (rare) and we can relate.  The things they do and say trickle down and affect the people around us.

They are also interesting from a marketing perspective.  That's why I find Gwyneth interesting.

I'll leave it alone.  But if you start quoting Kim Kardashian, I'm coming back with a vengeance . . .

Enjoy the 4th.

She makes me want to barf, and her husband is worse.  I avoid anything about them, but they are influential for many.  You can't ignore that.  People I respect watch the show (I've tried at the gym when infomercials were the only alternative and usually end up with the infomercials). Also, I think they deserve credit for finding a way to make so many millions of dollars without any talent, and having limited personalities and non-conventional looks.

I can't imagine French fries being anyone's life... I mean, they are like manna from heaven but I can go months without having a single one.  cheese

Yeah, not believable.

Pretty sure that was meant to be a funny hyperbolic comment on people judging her eating habits.

Well here is the whole paragraph.

"Another misconception Paltrow wanted to clear up is that she's a picky eater. "People tend to think that I eat just seaweed and a bit of air," she said of her refined tastes. In reality, the actress said, "I have never had a horrible experience with French fries. French fries are my life!"'

Really? I thought she was serious. Still stupid though.

Paltrow published her 3rd cookbook in April. They are quite popular.

Evidently, she has lots of fans. The marketing must be working, dumb comments and all.  Maybe if my life was even remotely like hers I would get it.  I don't believe she eats French Fries though.

She is a foodie... She did that road trip culinary show in Spain with Mario Batalli. She might very well love French fries with truffle oil and grated parmigiana reggiano, but she clearly works out for several hours a day to keep it from showing.

I admire her acting a great deal. I loved her in Shakespeare in Love and have enjoyed her performances in other movies. But there is something about her mannerisms that grates, I admit it. I don't watch celebrity interviews a lot because so often they disappoint.

Annoying, but utterly avoidable.

Her first cookbook was given to me as a gift.  It includes memories and photos of her father intermingled with recipes. I guess I can relate to much of the book because my Grandfather died of complications from the same cancer her father had (and her father died the same way).  Her father's pancake recipe in that book is heartwarming and I liked how she infused the parts of herself that best represented her relationship with her father into the book.

I would guess she is probably telling the truth about the French fries.  Has anyone tried her workout routines? I tried them once and gave up quickly.

I fell out with Phony Gwyn years ago when she loudly and proudly stated that she'd rather die (or something to that affect) than to give her kids processed cheese. And her other gem that she can't "pretend to be someone who makes $25k a year" - she has to be her. If I were a Hollywood creator, I'd lock her out of every role calling for a woman struggling with kids trying to make ends meet, since she can't "pretend" and all.

How embarrassing it is that she is still in motion pictures.  I'd much prefer to stare at a kitten pawing at yarn for two plus hours.

Celebrities shouldn't ever be important.   The fact that they are influential is a problem, particularly given how removed from reality they live.

That's okay.  Hollywood doesn't make those movies  instead she's married to Ironman

Just the term "celebrity", looking at its root, is exceedingly irritating, as is "star", suggesting membership in some sort of divine firmament.

Who would apply either of those sentiments, thinkingly, to most of those to whom it is applied?

They are annoying and out of touch.  But they have huge cultural influence whether you like it or not.  You can't ignore that. Especially the Kardashians.  Don't get it, but it is there.

You can ignore it. You can easily ignore it. Many, however, choose not to.
