Gutters

As someone pointed out in the snow thread, one thing you can do, and probably,maybe, have done is to make sure your gutters are clear. This will prevent backups and could help to minimize ice dams. Problem is that if they are full of debris,it may already be frozen in place.Snow is a great insulator and its easy to gauge the heat that escapes into your attic by the melt pattern. I've seen roofs that look like they have strips of snow on them which usually corresponds to the roof rafters. Everything melts except right above the rafters.
