Getting to Citi Field archived

Suggestions on best way to get to Citi Field for the 7:10 game tonight? What time do I need to leave SO to be inside by 6:45? Or is driving totally crazy?
We always park at Port Authority and take the subway ... I think driving is totally crazy.

NYC Penn Station, Long Island Railroad - leave SO by 5:00pm. Plenty to see at Citifield.

Driving is not crazy. I do it a lot but usually on Sundays. Best way is avoid the city and go over the GW (taking 46 to bridge and not 80). Listen to all the radio reports since there's always a chance there's a mad delay on the bridge versus the typical delays which might just might make going via Lincoln or Holland Tunnel better but I doubt it. From the bridge I generally take the Triboro RFK but sometimes I take the Whitestone. In any event I park near the bullpen entrance in the chop shop area. Unless you have a car much better than a Subaru Outback it should be safe. I would leave one and half hours to get there by 6:45. You may be able to do it in less of course.

I posted this before I saw Algebra's response. I'm a Queens girl and know the ins and outs so for me it's not crazy. Although the suggestion of parking at the Port Authority is a good one which I've heard before and I plan to try that this Wednesday evening since driving after a full day of work (as opposed to our normal Sunday day games) is tiring.

I think driving @ rush-hour is a bad idea. If you plan on getting there by 4, it may work, but be prepared for traffic.

Make a point to go to section D of the parking lot, where the infield of Shea Stadium is laid out in bronze plaques.

Midtown Direct to Penn and then the LIRR - although with the way the Mets are going traffic shouldn't be a problem to get to their games because there will only be a few hundred people in attendance by September.

Thx for the helpful comments. Two more questions:

- any specific suggestion for Port Authority parking?
- do they allow you to bring in bottled water?

thx again

the port authority parking garage is a LAZ Park and is above PA. When you come out of the tunnel you go up the helix which the buses use - follow signs for LAZ Parking

I would seriously reconsider driving, unless you leave well in advance. It's not impossible for there to be an hour delay at the Lincoln tunnel. It may be fine, or it may be awful. Not to mention that I find the train - or even bus - so much more relaxing.

If you were to drive all the way, I could name 4 or 5 more spots where you'll probably hit delays. Going just to PA is at least a better idea.

But the best way is NJT to Penn Station & LIRR to Mets-Willets Points. To save a bit, you can take the 1/2/3 one stop north to Times Square, and the express 7 out to CitiField (expresses will be running on weekdays).

Lastly, if you want to actually see the park (as opposed to just see a game at the park), there's nothing wrong with getting there an hour or two early. There's the rotunda, the new mondo team store, check out the layout & the center & right field concessions, the old apple down by the "bullpen" gate, etc. We've been to three games this year, gotten there at least 1.5 hours early twice, and have barely just covered the place.

It's a great way for Dodgers fans to spend some quality nostalgia time.

Thanks AGAIN for the advice. I'm going to leave early (430 or so), drive to Port Authority, take the 7 from there. Let's Go Mets!
