Funny odor in bathroom.

At a hotel and pickup up an off odor, foul would be a better word.  Looked around and found......Yep that would do it.

looks like the waste line from the sink, and I'm guessing that accordion pleating would hang on to all manner of nasty stuff over time. Skin and hair, dirt, oils... Which might come to smell just wonderful over time.

there is no trap.  Stack gas can come right out of the drain.

FilmCarp got it.  No U or P trap design so no gas trap.  All sewer line gasses are free to vent into the room via that flex connection, and were.

Well since you went to all the trouble to get down on your knees to examine and take a pic, couldn't you have just bent that crinkle tube into a makeshift trap?  Such entitlement!

If one bathroom is like that, won't they all be???
