From N.J. transit

I took the train to Penn Station a couple of weeks ago and wondered what kinds of photos I could get from the window.

Just before entering the tunnel.

Great photos.  They must have recently washed the windows of the train.  smile

They do that?

As a card carrying train junkie (commonly called foamers), naturally I love these pictures.  It does seem the cars are fresh from the car wash, which are at the nearby Meadows Maintenance Complex and Hoboken Yard.

I feel obliged to identify what you're looking at in the first photo.  The view is North as the train crosses Portal Drawbridge.  The open swing bridge is on the former NY & Greenwood Lake Railway, operated by the Erie.  Built in 1899, it last saw service as the Bootnon Line, connecting Montclair to Hoboken until the Montclair Connection opened in 2002.  Norfolk Southern, who owned the line, then closed the branch and secured the bridge in the open position.

You can get interesting pictures when you're willing to trespass..

Thanks dk50b, I've often wondered where that rail line went and why the bridge always seemed to be open.

These photos are great, but the thread's subject line made my stomach drop.
