Free speech under fire

For all the handwringing over whether tv personalities that sell millions of books are having having their speech curtailed, here's a reminder of the real threats to free speech in Trump's America:

The US Department of Justice is still prosecuting Code Pink activist Desiree Fairooz because she laughed at Attorney General Jeff Sessions during his confirmation hearing — even after a judge threw out a jury’s initial conviction against her.
The case goes back to January, when Sessions was testifying before the Senate for his attorney general nomination. At one point, Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) said Sessions’s history of “treating all Americans equally under the law is clear and well-documented.” Given that Sessions has a long history of opposing the equal treatment of all Americans under the law (from his opposition to voting rights laws to LGBTQ rights), Fairooz apparently found the comment funny and laughed out loud.

stuff like this is way under the radar, but it's part of the real scary stuff that's happening now. I haven't seen CNN even mention this case in months, if they ever have. Instead I heard some CNN talking head yet again bring up that most evil of recent issues - Hillary's email server.

gah.

That the DOJ has nothing better to do than prosecute this woman again, over these bogus claims is unconscionable. That the AG is allowing this is beyond the pale and just goes to show what kind of administration we are dealing with.

welcome to our version of the political trial.
