Frameless Glass Shower Door installation referral archived

Jun 3, 2014 at 8:34am
Looking for some referrals for frameless glass shower doors. I called the place across the street from Home Depot. He gave me a quote without seeing what I need or taking measurements. Hoping to get some more. Thanks in advance.
We used Gorkin Glass out of North Plainfield to install a frameless glass enclosure for our shower over bathtub. It was not cheap (though I didn't get any other quotes to compare), but we are happy with the results so far.

I was watching your bathroom reno thread, I got one or two companies from there. Thanks for this one!

@jasper can you let me know what was your ballpark figure for the install ? I was considering doing a glass enclosure over my tub as well...

I used them about 5 years ago and they came to measure before they gave me a quote. They did a fantastic job and were on time, so maybe give them a call back and insist that they come to your house?

I'm interested in a price, too.

What is the advantage of the frameless shower doors over the conventional type?

no advantage....just looks more modern

I got a bunch of estimates and ended up with the guys across from Home Depot for a frameless door and mirrors because although everyone's price for the door was pretty much the same his prices for mirrors were much less and he included beveled glass in my master bathroom (three large mirrors).

I need to redo my bathroom and have been crying the blues over the frameless doors. Nice looking, but...

For me the advantage is not having the various tracks where mold and hair and soap scum collect and are nearly impossible to clean properly.

The glass shower doors were the single-most crazy expensive part of our bathroom renovation outside of labor, and I definitely was taken aback by the quote, but I justified it this way: I am our house cleaner (fine, Mr. Jasper does the vacuuming). In the 17 years we've lived in our house, assuming that most people who hire someone to clean their house do so once every 2 weeks at roughly $80 a visit, I figure we've saved about $35000. Anything that makes it easier for me to keep the bathroom clean is well-earned. Still, it is an admitted luxury that I hope will prove to have been worth it in the long run.

We liked OHM. http://www.ohmglass.com Their phone ballpark quote was a little less than the guys across from HomeDepot.

Thank you everyone! We have a half wall so ours has to be custom and I don't think framed ones can do that. Plus the frameless just look so much nicer. I was given a quote of 1500 for a door and one straight side. I will try these other referrals!

$1,500 isn't too bad. Where did you get it?

jasper,

Great justification concerning the house cleaner. I'm going to do that in my mind.

The place across from Home Depot.

Sure! I can let ya know how it goes. The nj glass and mirror place guy said I would have to go to his show room in kenilworth to pick out handles and such. We are using the shower right now without it bc it just so amazing to have gone from a soaking tub with a shower tacked on to a gorgeous huge walk in shower with dual shower heads. oh oh

debells,

Nice! So you don't have a tub now, but just a walk in?

Another vote for Clifton.

Yup, one owner put in just a soaking tub. The next owner tacked on a shower to make the 3rd floor a master suite. Stepping into the giant tub every morning for a shower is NOT fun. We had a leak from the bath controls so went ahead and just ripped it out.

Wow. Nice and big.

You don't seem to have any doors on it?

Second for Adler Glass. Roland and his brother Frank do great work.

Nope, we are putting glass up. Hence the need for referrals. oh oh
